As you can see in the picture below, Google has integrated an information box for BTC address balances.

However, there are some issues:

  • The dataset is somewhat outdated (dating back to January '24).
  • Not all address types are supported, as you can see.

Nevertheless, this is significant. It shows that Google also recognizes that Bitcoin isn't going anywhere ;)

Hopefully, it will only improve in the future.

Dear IRS, it's not my address, just the number 3 on the rich list!

Address details:

  • Test transaction back in July '23 of about 0.25 BTC.
  • High accumulation right afterwards.
  • Getting FOMO lately.

Do you think it's an exchange or a company/individual? Are there rumors or informations out there ?

Please don't post my address publicly. Haha

reply

agreed. Probably not a good idea to give your bitcoin balance to big brother...

reply

🤣

remember the days when you needed a contract with coinanalysis to get a real idea of movements and routes... now google will gobble this all up and will surveil all of it in a second. This is not good news.

reply

Imo, this is good news since security by obscurity doesn't work and the same is probably true for privacy.

Over time, technology like this makes existing gaping holes in your privacy more obvious so more people are aware of them which leads to a push to fix these already existing issues.

The biggest problem with security and privacy might be that the most targeted people (think of Snowden, Assange, Satoshi etc.) are in the minority but most tech seems to focus on the average target which isn't a target at all.

This has always been public. The fact that chainalysis is becoming easier is inconsequential. This was never about security through obscurity.

reply

Yeah, you made up a good point.

There are some huge downsides in regards to privacy...

You were never private if you were relying on people not looking. At least put up some curtains.

Meh... the blockchain has always been public. Anyone moderately skilled person would have been able to trace txns across the network. I don't think the fact that Google is getting into the space actually changes anything

reply

I can't imagine being an account based model chain user now you're LSM data is being doxxed like crazy, at least with the UTXO model we can hide in plain site

Forgot to include the link to the address, but I don't want you to spend extra time on it ;)

reply

Forward. Just wait for a year or two and let’s see what’s next!

Dear IRS,

Go fuck yourselves.

Dear IRS

Ha

reply

Do you think this will help people understand it better?
Makes it easier to see things, but I dont think it will reach the people that are ignorant of bitcoin.
Maybe it will, I guess we will see.
Good on Google to accept it.
Im sure it has some on its balance sheets already, though.

reply

Bitcoin is seen as bullish by Google now.

They are just simplifying the UX.

Anyone with a full node and open source block chain explorer software can already do this as all on chain transactions were public.

If you want privacy there is always lightning network and also making every spend a coinjoin

World of Surveillance

Nice try Google.

reply

Est-ce que cela sera utile ?

reply

It seems many people are fine with this, why don't we start sharing our BTC address?.

reply

Serious privacy concerns

reply

If you see a price somewhere in bitcoin you can select the price and gives you a option to convert.
