I am an American expat who's been living in Spain for 2.5 years. Spain feels a bit more hopeful than Germany or France: I heard outright libertarian or free enterprise ideas from people who actually work for the government, something unthinkable in the US.
It's still a fiscal nightmare and tax hell though. It's seems like the EU is turning into a digital dystopia, also.
