My 5yr old did her best Dominik Hasek impression over the weekend and saved me from the dog house. Here is a live look at her acrobatics:
Let me preface the story of this great save by first saying I am not a greeting card person but my wife most definitely is. She would rather get a nice card with a heartfelt message than a gift in most cases.
It was my wife's birthday this past weekend.
I did remember to take the kids shopping earlier in the week to pick up a card and gift from them and at the same time purchased a gift from myself. However, I did not like the selection of birthday cards and wanted to check a different store but got busy afterwards and forgot all about the card.
Fast forward to the morning of my wife's birthday. My wife went to take the dog out for a walk so I had the kids write a message and sign their card and we put the presents in gift bags with some tissue paper. At which point I realized there was no card from me. I said "uh oh, Daddy didn't get Mommy a card" and my little one sprung into action. She replied "it's okay daddy, I am going to make a love sign for you to give mommy".
Hmmm this could work I thought and it did. My wife loved it.
Now that is one heck of a save. Thanks Izzy!

My daughter's been making tons of "I love you cards" lately. It's very cute, even though they're completely indecipherable.

My little one loves to make cards and signs. The other day she told me I had to go to Ninja skills class and gave me a sign that said:
DADDY IZZY COOKIE NINJA SKILLS
for context cookie is a stuffed animal shaped like a giant cookie.

Adorable

I knew she was up to something when she said "how do you spell ninja". Haha
I didn't ask why, just went with it.

Did you complete Ninja Skills or was that just the first course in a sequence?
reply
I have yet to complete the ninja skills training but I look forward to the challenge. I think she said it would be Tuesday because dance class is today.

This reminds me of a certain poor decision made many years ago by a guy who went to a hockey game on Valentine's Day

Ouch. I didn't have my little superhero to save the day back then.

haha Is your wife on stacker news? She might see lol
reply
No, maybe one day.
reply
haha that will make like interesting!

I love it! Those are definitely the best gifts you can receive, I still have saved the first "I love you mommy" that my daughter could write. I'm sure your wife felt lucky.

She loved it and posted it on the refrigerator.

Having your parents place your drawing on the refrigerator is like the ultimate honor for a child. I imagine that your daughter was also very excited, because her drawing will now be visible every day, for having been part of the preparation of the gift and for having made his mother happy. Children are wonderful.

Absolutely.
