Happy Monday! Starting a new weekly(ish) ~FiresidePhilosophy post.

What's something you've learned or discovered over the last week or two?

Doesn't have to be bitcoin related, although that's fun as well. Can be anything from a fun fact to something that's helped you through a challenging moment.
And just a tip - if it's short, leave it in a comment. If it's long, take some time to write it out, make a new post, and leave a link in the comments here. That's probably likely to get more visibility and zaps.

I've been listening to Broken Money by Lyn Alden, and the stuff in there about the rise of the Petrodollar was super interesting. Never really understood the massive role oil has in the stability of the dollar.

Caring for a loved one who health has declined has been very humbling and made me realize how much I take for granted the health I have. Something unexpected happened during all these trips to the hospital and other places. I’m developing a new value system, or realizing what is actually valuable. Things don’t matter. Eating and drinking healthily, and spending your time making things better or more comfortable for others has giving me a lot of purpose. More so than building technology. It was a silver lining during this experience.

Never forget to log out from personal social networking sites before leaving the computer system at the workplace. It's a good security practice. Learned that.

I am learning that it takes a while for my body to equalize after quitting smoking pot. The quitting part was kind of easy this time around because I really wanted it. I underestimated how far out of wack my system was. Mainly getting back to where I can sleep well has been challenging.

Interesting/useful fact - Interval training, i.e. HIIT training (high intensity interval training) can REALLY increase your aerobic capacity VERY quickly, just with a tiny bit of work.
For me, what worked is just 2 or 3 sessions of week, 20 minutes on the treadmill (or of course you can do it on trails), running 2 minutes, walking 2 minutes. I'm upping the pace of my running. It's more effective than much longer, but less intense session.

Yes indeed! I've been implementing the Norwegian 4x4 protocol for increasing VO2 max and it's only week 4 or so but it has been doing wonders on my athletic performance for football (soccer). It's hell when doing them but I have more capacity to maintain peak performance during game time which for me is the whole point of doing any sort of training, is for it to reflect positively on the pitch.
