What This Is

This is a chance to buy a physical copy of The Rogue Scholar The Rogue To Victory which was put here on Stacker News by most appreciated invitation!

What Is In This That Isn't On Stacker News (For Free That Is)

Hopefully the copy is cleaner. This book went through a long period of sitting around since it was written back in 2010. There were challenges in getting the data wrangled into various kinds of editors without things like helpful grammar checkers making changes--and actual mistakes that needed a finer comb.
There is also a "From the Author" section that doesn't appear on Stacker News, and a good chunk of Chapter 19 which for some reason went missing (remember, I said, data wrangling) is included where it should have been. Basically, you get fewer screw ups and oh yeah, you also get a physical copy of the book.

Sizes

Apparently, smaller sizes cost more to print. Maybe it has to do with paper waste? If you have your heart set on the smaller size, it will be available a little later and will cost more than the larger size offered here.

E-book Version In Agora?

I'd be open to posting an ebook version for purchase up in Agora if there is interest/desire. This would allow people to buy the whole thing digitally for sats although it would necessitate some kind of file transfer which I'm sure could be solved.
I have no idea why this isn't a thing, but it should be a thing. Somebody go make this a thing!

A Final Thought

As this book was written back in 2010, it is interesting I think, anyway, to see the things that it predicted. The fact the next Tron is being called Aries as far as I know, is especially relevant. Art by art, imitates art, which becomes Disney? Sal would definitely love this.

One More Thought

Since Siggy invited me, I thought I'd make the first offer here as a kind of exclusive invitation first and foremost. Since this whole publishing flow has been experimental, feel free to leave me some feedback about what you might want to help support independent authors like me! (Remember, I have that whole sequel The Celestial Intelligence Agency lined up to be written provided the world doesn't tear itself apart first which is quite a gambit right now)

Wow, originally written in 2010?
reply
Yep. I didn't want to print it traditionally and felt like it needed to have something to do with crypto but it wasn't technologically ready at that point.

Cool. I'm a big fan of Bitcoin history.
reply
lol. Well, this book isn't precisely about bitcoin history AS SUCH but it was written while bitcoin was in a nascent form. It definitely reflects many values of that period I think. Remember, Bitcoin came out in about 08 or 09 depending on your view. I was in the middle of considering alternatives to the financial system at that point myself although my solution was more primitive than Satoshi's and shares more in common with Florence, Italy than Bitcoin.

That is interesting. I wasn't very informed about monetary policy at the genesis of Bitcoin, but I was looking at where I could point my extra idle computing power. Folding@home is what I tried I remember just a few months before I heard of Bitcoin.

Was that the prion protein folding thing? I remember that. I think SETI had a screen saver back in the day you could use to help find alien life or narrow it down. I tried that for awhile, then figured the aliens were probably all ready here and too smart to want to talk to most of us!
Yeah, I was interested in an alternative system that would not allow the basic "burn in" of certain people holding financial power. I came to the understanding of something like a financial Jubilee being necessary to such a system before I really understood what a Jubilee was.

Yep. The project is still ongoing.

Heh. I wonder if it has actually helped do anything useful in terms of tangible results?
