I got up to I think it was X or XI, with the Falcie, and hated the direction the series was taking, although I liked the fact the grind was lessened. The story element became emaciated.
I liked X a lot, but I didn't like VIII, XII, XIII among others, many have indeed been bad or very bad, but there are still some remarkable, but hey is my opinion, everyone has their own and as I say, it's respectable, I hope that one day you will find an FF that you like, as much as FFVII.

I think if they went back to a strong story that's solid I would be happier. Of course, I'm "older school" in that I played games in part because they were well written.

I'm also old school, I love VII, VI, II etc, but well, every company has its ups and downs, they also focused a lot on other franchises like Dragon Quest or KH, I hope that one day FF will be worthy of winning a GOTY at least.
If GOTY had existed in 1997 when FFVII was released I'm sure it would have won.

Dragon Quest on NES was one of the only games I ever won instead of buying. After I popped it in the console, I figured out why it was winnable. Steel slime suck, just for the record--especially when they approach.

Er, I should have said Dragon Warrior.
reply
hahaha, is dragon warrior the Japanese or American name? I don't know that.
reply
Dragon warrior I think was the Japanese name, and the original Nintendo name of the series.
