Falling Leafs
Most of the world that lives in a climate with 4 unique seasons, are used to leaves falling from the trees in the fall season, but here in Ontario, Canada we get to experience this phenomenon twice a year. The beautiful transition of fall to winter with vibrant colours and falling leaves and then again in spring when the Toronto Maple Leafs fall early in the NHL playoffs.
It's an annual tradition around these parts to watch the boys in blue play wonderfully in the regular season and then fall flat on their faces come playoff time. This phenomenon and its rich history is so well noted and studied even people in other countries talk about it #512536. I don't want to jinx anything here but down 3 games to 1 and heading back to Boston for game 5 it looks like the Leafs season might be coming to a close even earlier than expected this year. It shall be as beautiful as the fall colours to watch these Leafs fall.
I haven't done one of these in awhile, so today seems as fine a day as any to roll one out. It's time to shill. Other than the Leafs, shill me a team that is perennially good in the regular season but falls on their faces in the playoffs.
Sats for all, GR
😂😂😂😂 this new playoff format is brutal. This should be more a conference finals or at least the semi final. Have a great season and congrats you play the Boston machine
What’s so perplexing is how Auston doesn’t really show up. Has one goal?? How many points? For a guy that almost got 70 goals does his game not translate to the tight checking playoffs?
All in All F the leafs have fun on the golf course boys!

This has definitely been the problem for this Leafs regime and core. The style of play just doesn't translate to the playoffs. Let's hope this series comes to an end on Tuesday so I can go back to cheering against the Bruins.

Exactly. Damn near impossible to root for that team.
reply
I definitely appreciate the Bruins much more than I used to with them knocking the Leafs out of the playoffs every year so I can stomach cheering for them for up to 7 games for the greater good.
reply
Hockey! I like this more than american football. lol
reply
Great. Nice to have another hockey fan around. Which team do you cheer for?
reply
I enjoy watching the original six. You only cheer for one team?
reply
The off-season Chargers are perennial Super Bowl contenders, but since they seldom make the playoffs they probably don't count.
The two teams that come to mind are the 76ers and the Cowboys, but that's more specific to Embiid and Dak, than a franchise phenomenon.
Btw, it's looking pretty good for @siggy47's Minneapolis Lakers in the survivor pool.
reply
It might look easy, but if you knew the hours I put in analyzing the rosters, individual matchups, etc.
reply
I'm not sure why they were the underdogs. Look at that lineup:

Look at those physiques.

No surprise that they're up 3-0 on these chumps:

Definitely the Cowboys fit the mold. 76 ers too.
Ant Man is going to seal the NBA pool victory for siggy and bring glory back to the land of 10,000 lakes. That's a lot of lakes by the way. We should all be able to afford waterfront property in Minnesota.

Your San Diego Sailboats are bouncing back against the Mavs. You might not be out of it yet.
reply
I don’t have a lot of faith in them without Kawhi but hopefully they can hold it together.
reply
I can't imagine why you wouldn't trust James Harden, Russell Westbrook, and Paul George to perform in the playoffs.
reply
They got the win. If they can find a way to get past the Mavs hopefully Kawhi will come back in the next round.

Playoff P!

I'm sure you can, but you won't like the options.

Don't celebrate too early. The job isn't done yet. Don't forget Boston just blew a 3-1 series last season versus the Panthers.
reply
I know. I almost didn’t want to make this post for fear of the small chance I might need to eat my words but I couldn’t resist.

Yeah the Leafs are realllly Leafing it again. I’m wondering if the Dodgers will do either typical flame out as well. Season is still early but they have started off hot like they have done for years prior to the flame out
reply
They did win one World Series. Though it was the covid year.

If people don’t count my Stro ‘17 champ then I don’t count the ‘20 season 😤

So, that means the reward for @k00b will also fall like another leaf?
Anyways, we have RCB in IPL for cricket that is the most dangerous team, at least on paper, but it had never ever gone to win the IPL. For, this year they are dwindling at the last position.
reply
Mumbai Indians having a rough year. It's all been downhill for them since @siggy47 added them to his grudge list.
Kolkata Knight Riders is the team I am rooting for. I like their style and I was a fan of night rider as a kid. So cool.
By the way what does k00b have to do with the Leafs. Maybe you were thinking about KR. He is the Leafs fan.
reply
Yes, kr 😂.
I've been a huge fan of KKR too but my reason is Shah Rukh Khan, the king of Bollywood.
reply
I am so old that I remember when Sachin Tendulkar was ruling the cricket world. Too bad he played for the Indians.

The guys that get you to the playoffs are often not the playoff performers
