I came across something the other day that captured my attention. The article was about how a Singaporean joined the World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF) and felt that she was emanating “main character energy”.
Apparently, “main character energy” originated in social media in 2000 and refers to the confidence exuded by someone who has taken control of his or her narrative.
This instantly made me reflect. Am I languishing or flourishing? Am I happy with the way things are progressing right now in my life? Although I’m being put through the treacherous rings of fire due to parenting, am I able to jump through the hoops and catch a breather from time to time? Am I pushing ahead with the things I can control instead of feeling paralysed?
I guess I’m quite happy with how I am posting regularly on SN (and consequently, other platforms), so my work isn’t entirely my identity. I am looking forward to paying part of my utilities bill with my April earnings from Million Sats Madness, but I guess I would evoke main character energy more radiantly if I were to live by the Bitcoin Standard. Imagine generating enough income to pay for all my bills and save for my kids’ college funds and my wife’s and my retirement! That is the dream, my lofty goal!
How about you? Are you giving off main character energy? How does Bitcoin factor into your narrative?
If Bitcoin is very important to you, you might want to think of your “life story” as a science fiction. Science fiction has certain “genre rules”, as do all genres. Science fiction, more expressly than fantasy, emphasizes social slavery (pretty beautiful when you remark on that alongside Bitcoin values); fantasy is more about individual liberation.
Some interesting notes flipping through the chapter “Science Fiction” in Anatomy of Genre by John Truby:
  • SF is about social systems. All social systems have elements of freedom and imprisonment, so the story isn’t about a free system vs an enslaving system, but all social systems have elements of both.
  • SF says the most profound choices we make are influenced by the technology we have invented
  • The best SF writers compare, in detail, the opponent’s vision of the future with the hero’s vision
  • Like Fantasy, there are symbolic/allegorical relations between the hero’s internal state/character and the visual/physical world. In SF, “often the hero’s weaknesses turn on what it means to be human” and “stories connect the hero’s lack of evolution with the planet’s lack of evolution.”

Thanks for sharing this novel perspective. I like how the protagonist needs to manage his weakness to navigate an imperfect world. Sounds about right!

I think that's the general rule of thumb for all stories - and so, possibly, for life :)

There's also a subreddit call r/imthemaincharacter but its just people being cringe and having no respect for other people around them lol.
reply
claiming 'main character energy' is like a nickname someone gives themselves that nobody calls them by - telling me a lot about how you view yourself in relation to the world than anything else
you're not the main character if other people don't recognize that, lmao
reply
Lol guilty as charged!

On the flip side, there's the concept of the twitter main character which basically amounts to being the prominent idiot everyone's laughing at.
reply
Geez this is hilarious. Thanks for letting me know. I seldom use X nowadays

lol i'm just a side man doing side quests, leave me be

I think the focus should be on generating a huge amount of value to others.
If you do that, then you will be able to live a good life.

That’s a poignant reminder. Thanks, mate

a friend once described overwhelming self-involvement in social dynamics as "Main Character Syndrome" which made good sense to me. I've since included that phrase in my lexicon
reply
What is the difference between ‘energy’ n ‘syndrome’ in your opinion?
reply
"That person has main character syndrome, I don't know if want to be like that."
vs.
"That person has main character energy, I might want to be like that."
reply
Everyone is the main character of their own story.
reply
N no one cares particularly about another’s story because we are all so absorbed in our own haha
reply
correct
caveat, sometimes others stories resonate with our own, thereby generating interest.
reply
Main character in my life and that's good enough for me.

Well said. Not many Stackers can claim to post here as their full-time job

Yes. I'm starting to giving off main character energy. After I left my job last year I can say I now find the time, space, and stillness to clear away all the narratives and comparisons that prevented me from being my true self and living my best lives. I'm now more clear about setting boundaries, taking care of myself, and embracing all the possibilities ahead.
Bitcoin is the base of all my narratives. I'm now able to understand the true meaning of being financially free.

Thanks. Whenever I would require some motivation, I will stare at you once I become father. 😂

Let’s put it this way, when I talk to someone, I stand in front of them and then press the “A” button.

Erm A as in arsehole?

I feel like I started giving off main character energy when I went to college. Before that, I had been the youngest person in a friend group, so it was pretty easy to sort of get swept along by what others were doing.
reply
Must have felt liberating coming into your own, huh 🤔
reply
I really didn't notice it at the time. It's just something I've wondered about upon reflection.

It's funny how things show up at the perfect moment! I am just starting to understand how this fits into the puzzle that is the experience of life as a human! What I do know, and have for a while is that, without even knowing (for most) we are already the main character in our story. When we embrace this and are aware of it then the world is our oyster! I don't profess to know enough about bitcoin(yet) to be able to say how it will factor into my narrative, but I do know that if you want it to, then it can absolutely work how you want it too! As for having to spend all your time on here to do that - well i don't believe that to be true, unless you want it to be! I suppose the question is - how can you gain more knowledge of bitcoin and SN and make it work for you?
reply
I think, for one, I need to have the discipline to publish my own courses on emeralize: https://emeralize.app/.
I will work towards it!

ok I was worried for a second that this would go into the direction of magiK... but this is a good question:
how can you gain more knowledge of bitcoin and SN and make it work for you?
reply
it could have gone in that direction - however you asked us to relate it to bitcoin so I chose to keep magik at bay (or did I?)

I haven't asked you anything before, must be someone else.

ha ha... true! I read the reply and assumed it was the OP! Whoops! My mistake :)

To be able to do that, you would really have to dedicate a lot of time on here. Not saying its not possible, but I dont know if it would be worth it.

I don’t think my writing is that good haha.
I do have my personal blog n my goal is to earn $150 from Google Adsense so that I can withdraw it n say been that done that

Writing takes practice. Just keep plugging along if this is what you want to excel at. Some things take time to find the right voice.

Seems like a lot of effort for something so little. Just enjoy what you have here and dont make it work. Passion projects make you happy as long as you dont push it into a job.
