You might need to simplify your life.
Get one of those lanyards so that it is always around your neck or retracts.
I have also lost a kids shoe before, they were sitting in a stroller and it fell off.
We found it eventually by backtracking, but my wife wasnt happy.
These things happen, dont let it weigh on you.
