Not going to lie, this is kind of BS. A pilot should be able to use a map, and not just depend on technology to fly. They are becoming lazy and incompetent. In WW2, they were bombing without accurate maps by using the landscape.

In WW2 night raids I think they had some tech to follow location, but there were mistakes too, wrong cities got bombed. You cannot use map during the night when you can't see anything.

That is what a compass and stars are for.

You think it's enough to hit the runway?

reply

You cannot land in Tartu airport in nighttime without GPS, that's why Finnair have now suspended that route. If there would not be that tech, regulations would not allow to land passenger planes at nighttime there at all.

reply

Im sure there are special cases, but in general it shouldnt be that big of a deal. I think they are blowing a lot of things out of proportion. You can actually land any airport at night, its just that the pilots dont have the experience without using the GPS. Its become a crutch.

reply

So the article is valid for pilots who depend solely on gps?

reply

I get that jamming gps is annoying, but it isnt the end of the world. Especially for commercial flights and such.

The OP is paranoid about anything Russia

reply
