Bitcoin on exchanges and "Custodians" is basically an IOU note saying
"We pinky swear.... you will get your bitcoin when you ask for it......until we steal it and declare bankruptcy lol noob"

You think that 7b people will hold their keys properly? There must be new solutions to this. There must be also more solutions to multiple owners of a same account, security, heritage, etc. We are too early yet.

Unfortunately you are not considering extra factors: accidents, malapraxis between partners, illness, old age, divorce, and all the legal aspects and cases for which there is a huge code... I follow your point and I would like to see the indepence of the poeple from the banks, but maybe there can be other legal or trust companies that can protect some people for this collateral damages.

Fair.
But trust companies are just an indication of a society's decay in trusting strangers over family. Most o these things can be resolved if there is trust in family.
It seems if we fix societal ills and the importance of familial bonds and social bonds then these middlemen of custody are not needed.
