I've been playing this season on a new team with new teammates and manager, and although we are 0-2 at the moment, I've been blessed to have joined a team where there is really strong unity and overall understanding that football at the end of the day is a team sport.
Because of this, and because I have ambitions in the near future to own my own team, I was motivated to create a video on tactics and basic formational structure to share with my teammates to give them ideas we could work with moving forward. I put a few hours into the video that ended up being a little under 10 minutes or so, and was happy with the end product, but when the time came to share with everyone else, my mind starting conjuring up some doubt. Previous me would have most likely opted not to share it, but I told myself, if I don't share it, nothing changes, however if I do share it something will come out of it, regardless of whether or not you receive the reaction or response you anticipated. The only way I could lose would have been to let my ideas die right then and there because I didn't share them.
So I created a players only group chat, and posted the video I made. And today right before our game started, a few of my teammates came to me and told me they had watched the video and thought it was very well done, and appreciated the effort I put worth. And immediately, we implemented some of the ideas I had put out on the video and to top it all off I was rewarded by scoring our only goal.
I give SN a lot of credit in my shift in mentality when it comes to learning to take action and actually share whatever ideas I have in my head without succumbing to my mind talking me out of it. I gave myself the goal to write every day for a month on SN and it has already made me much more comfortable and confident in expressing myself not worrying about the external reactions but doing it in order to better myself.
Thank you SN and SN community! And if you're like the old me who was just reading posts on here and shying away from posting something of your own, what are you waiting for? Seriously, just post, post about anything people are much more open minded here and very supportive!

True. Sharing what one has worked on hours upon hours can be daunting, especially when people start mocking your work, or provide "input" that's simply aimed at making fun of said work, or provide critique without helpful corrections.
That said, it also brings the possibility of further improvements on the already solid work, refinement is what makes it really pop in the end.

Well done!
Do you think your previous hesitation has to do with your Japanese heritage - that you don’t wanna release something until you feel that it is rigorously conceptualised? I think the Japanese has a tendency of holding themselves back until they feel the timing is right

By your description, I just might be Japanese myself.

This may be why you settle the nitty-gritty first before getting down to the cognitively demanding work - either as a way of procrastination or as a way to let ideas germinate in your head

I do think there is an element of that when it comes to me in the past being hesitant in expressing my thoughts, feelings, and ideas. But I also am very grateful that my parents made the decision to have me in the States and raised me in the US because I feel I am both understanding of the importance of the collective (Japanese culture) but at the same time have an appreciation for maintaining a sense of self and at times prioritizing the individual ahead of the collective (US culture).

I agree. People are much more open minded to read anything here and supportive too. I do not post too often but your post gas really ignited some fresh fire into my writing soul, so thank you for the post.

extraordinary anecdote, thank you for sharing... you are very right, many times we let ideas die without shouting them to the world, and many times shouting them can help us improve, be it our environment, something personal or someone close to us... I share your vision of SN It is an incredible place that drives us to improve every day

Thank you for reading! Yes indeed, I've let so many ideas die but moving forward I aim to release that energy to the world and see what happens!

You've written exactly the words of my mouth. I too feel that because of SN, I've started taking call to action so often. About writing l, I don't post posts too much but I always read and comment. I'm not a very good writer but I feel I can read here and wherever possible I can try to be V4V agent for fellow Stackers.
Thanks for the post.

Trust me I'm no good writer either! But this community has taught me that that's okay, and thing is the more we practice especially within a supportive community like SN, the better we become at it!

Spot on and well done!
