I think OKC management didn't think they were actual contenders this year in a stacked western conference. They wanted to roll with what they had into the playoffs and see how it played out and make adjustments from there. It just seems like a bad move now because they secured the one seed and were one shot away from the West finals, but I don't mind the strategy. They needed to see how SGA, Chet, Dort, Giddy were going to look in the playoffs.
I was really high on Chet early in the season but I don't know if he wore down due to his slender frame or the league figured him out. I do think he has a weakness to his game in terms of physicality that either needs to be addressed by putting some weight and muscle on him or adding complimentary pieces to help him out. OKCs rebounding was inconsistent. Some games they were ok but other games they got dominated on the glass. I think they need to address that.
I really like the idea of Markkanen and or Robinson.
I am looking forward to seeing how OKC brass augment the roster to make a run at it next year.
Great first post mortem post.
I didn't want them to break up the core at the deadline, they did need to see what they had.
However, I firmly believed they made a mistake by not trading some picks for Caruso or some other awesome role player. It's also important to see how the core works with those kind of championship caliber role players.
