First of all, please refer to https://walletscrutiny.com/ to evaluate any wallet you come across (or conversely, you can use the site as a start to look for suitable wallets).
Personally I use and recommend Muun which, besides being self-custodial, haves an excellent degree of interoperability between LN and on-chain transactions (you can seamlessly send BTC to the wallet via segwit and transfer them via LN invoices). It also integrates well with ledger. So it's a good hub to come and go wherever you want, all within a barebones UI that makes it real simple to do anything.
Do note that to have that level of versatility it uses "submarine swaps", which are costlier than pure LN transfers. Though, it's just ok if you are planning to use it for medium transfers. For example, I'm currently spending 1 USD to transfer 100 USD. I need it for that, so it just works for me.
Stop recommending Muun. It's not a lightning wallet.

This. Muun is actually just an on-chain wallet with the ability to pay someone else to do a LN transcation for you. So when fees are high, Muun's "Lightning Transactions" get really expensive.

The onboarding experience to LN, even if not a pure LN wallet, I think is optimal. I recommend it because I use it.

The "lightning" feature in Muun becomes unusable during periods of high fees. Not so optimal when you have to explain to noobs that the "cheap payments network" built on top of bitcoin doesn't work when fees are high. I stopped recommending Muun several months ago when I encountered this situation.

They corrected the issue during the fees hike, not latter. And they are still working on that. I'm confident I can keep recommending Muun because I personally was able to use it during that period after the improvements. You can't say that computers are bad today because they had only 1kb of ram years ago. A month is a decade in this environment.

On Bitcoin network you will NEVER use any shitcoin USD, only sats. Now I see your knowledge level about Bitcoin... Oh yeah and mentioning walletscrutiny page... another shitcoinery, presenting all kind of crap apps with shitcoins. IT IS BITCOIN ONLY OR NOTHING.

Not working when on-chain fees are high is the opposite of what I want from a Lightning wallet.
