I don’t know if you remember during covid CNN went out of their way to convince the public that Joe Rogan was taking ‘horse dewormer’ deliberately omitting the fact that Ivermectin is a very safe drug for humans for a range of purposes.
Smith said recently that he was going to confront CNN anchor Chris Cuomo about it as the Ivermectin issue is a good example of the way that corporate media routinely lies to the public.
I hope that these types of debates become more common in Europe as it feels like in my country - the UK - that too many people really don’t care about what’s true, only what the dominant narrative is.
The US is leading the way in this regard I feel. As the political class try to stifle free speech there is an increasing impulse from the public to seek the truth. And perhaps the tribal divisions, left vs right, conservative vs liberal etc, are starting to breakdown?
Maybe I’m overly optimistic in the short term however I do feel that the truth always wins in the end.

Ivermectin won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2015 for its effectiveness in treating parasitic infections like river blindness and lymphatic filariasis.

It wasn't just CNN. The FDA horse dewormer tweets subsequently got doctors fired for prescribing ivermectin. They sued for it and the FDA settled out of court.

It was last night. Of course I rooted for Dave. Cuomo was exposed as the liar he is, and Smith did a pretty good job. One thing that I found irritating was that Smith would only look at the audience while speaking, while Cuomo kept eye contact. Overall, Smith won, IMO, but that was only because he had the facts on his side. Cuomo isn't as dumb as I thought. He has a knack for lying pretty seamlessly- a Cuomo family tradition. Regarding Smith, he's a smart, funny guy, but his ego gets in his way, I think. He fancies himself a great debater. I think he should take that more seriously with prep, and not rely on his stand up comic chops as much.

It's hard to listen to Cuomo. I hate that when a person is seeking to obfuscate the truth or just downright lying that they put on a sensible, reasonable tone which is very effective at taking people in. Politicians are excellent at it.
