@k00b the framework is great. I bought one of the early ones. I think batch 2 or 3. Still use it every day. It is a joy to work on if you like to tinker.
I should add that mine isn't perfect. I haven't used any of the latest ones but their support is excellent. I had some issues with my hinges and the support team was a joy to work with.
Its not a Mac. Mac hardware is better and slicker but also closed and hard to work on. I'm one of those people that has taken apart many Macbook Pros over the years. I decided to switch to Linux in 2021 and this is the machine I bought. I haven't regretted it.
I use a company issued Thinkpad for my day job. The Framework doesn't seem as tough as the Thinkpad. But again, the Thinkpad isn't as easy to work on. It depends on your priorities. When I buy a new laptop the Framework will be the most likely choice for me.
Yeah I hear ya. Is it switching to Linux or the actual hardware that give you pause?
I have a old Thinkpad as my backup. Bought it on eBay for less than $200. If you just wanna experiment with Linux I think buying a old Thinkpad is a good option.
