I actually subscribe to the view that parenting matters a lot less than people think.
There’s some pretty compelling evidence that genetics far outweigh home environment.

No. In this area of research, they separate the two.
Some siblings are raised in separate homes, so they share genetics, but not home environment. Biological siblings raised apart end up more similar than adoptive siblings raised together.

It blew my mind when I read about it. Bryan Caplan has a great summary of the research in his book Selfish Reasons to Have More Kids.
One of the few important things you can impact as a parent is how your kids will feel about their childhood. That's good enough reason for me to try to do a good job.
