This is a pretty fun video for a couple of reasons
  1. It is a fun hypothetical. The matchups are really interesting.
  2. It's a beef between Draymond and Rasheed.
I'm pretty sure both Draymond and Rasheed are partially right: the Pistons would "beat the shit out of them" and the Warriors would "mop" the Pistons.
The part that gets overlooked is that the Warriors also had a really strong defense, which the '04 Lakers didn't. The Pistons defense would do a great job making life difficult of Golden State, but Golden State would basically shut off what little offense the Pistons had.
How do you see it playing out?
One prediction I have high certainty about is that 'Sheed and Draymond would set all the records for technical fouls in a playoff series.
Pistons can’t defend Steph and Klay making shots from all over the court. It’s almost impossible to defend both of them when they are shooting at a high percentage from 3.
reply
No, but there's a good case that Rip and Chauncey were about as well suited as any backcourt to defend against them (excepting this current Celtics backcourt).
Billups was a stronger more physical guard, which is what sometimes gave Steph trouble, and Hamilton was an elite screen navigator, so he's not going to get shaken off of Thompson.

I think the only way the Pistons could win is if their physical domination threw the Warriors off their game but because the Warriors were such a 3 point shooting heavy team, I think that is harder to achieve than a team that relies on driving to the basket. I think Pistons would play Steph and Klay tough but hard to be hyper physical in open space and not collect a ton of fouls. In the paint with bodies crashing everywhere you can probably get away with a bit more physicality and hope you can wear the other team down.

I agree.
Before I watched the video, my thinking was that the Pistons just weren't built to beat a 3-point heavy team, because those didn't exist back then. Ben Wallace would certainly find a way to be impactful defensively, but his rim protection prowess wouldn't matter that much against GS.
The video changed my mind about whether they are well-built to defend Steph and Klay, but also that doesn't mean Steph and Klay won't be too much to handle.
One of the things I'm just now thinking about is how the Warriors really killed opponents in their short bursts of insane scoring and I don't think even the '04 Pistons could avoid that. It just takes one bad matchup and all of a sudden they've put 20 on you before you even have time to make a substitution.

I think we also need to consider how it would be officiated. Are they calling fouls like it's 2004 or 2017?
reply
I'm not sure it matters that much, but let's be charitable and say 2004. This beef did start because Draymond was making fun of Shaq for losing in 2004, so that seems to be the reference point.

It would cool if there was an AI that could analyze these kinds of comparisons and then run 1000 simulations and based on the results of those 1000 simulations spit out an entire game or series to watch that would best mimic what would occur.

I think people use NBA 2k for this sort of thing. I know they do it with Madden.
If those advance to the point of being somewhat reliable, it would be very fun to watch some of these hypothetical matchups.
Who guards KD? Tayshaun Prince?
Warriors beat pistons is my guess
reply
Yes, and I agree. I think Tayshaun would do as good of a job as anyone, aside from Garnett.
I mentioned it to @grayruby somewhere, but I think the issue would be that the Warriors defense is much better than the Pistons offense.
