I think the only way the Pistons could win is if their physical domination threw the Warriors off their game but because the Warriors were such a 3 point shooting heavy team, I think that is harder to achieve than a team that relies on driving to the basket. I think Pistons would play Steph and Klay tough but hard to be hyper physical in open space and not collect a ton of fouls. In the paint with bodies crashing everywhere you can probably get away with a bit more physicality and hope you can wear the other team down.
I agree.
Before I watched the video, my thinking was that the Pistons just weren't built to beat a 3-point heavy team, because those didn't exist back then. Ben Wallace would certainly find a way to be impactful defensively, but his rim protection prowess wouldn't matter that much against GS.
The video changed my mind about whether they are well-built to defend Steph and Klay, but also that doesn't mean Steph and Klay won't be too much to handle.
One of the things I'm just now thinking about is how the Warriors really killed opponents in their short bursts of insane scoring and I don't think even the '04 Pistons could avoid that. It just takes one bad matchup and all of a sudden they've put 20 on you before you even have time to make a substitution.

I think we also need to consider how it would be officiated. Are they calling fouls like it's 2004 or 2017?

I'm not sure it matters that much, but let's be charitable and say 2004. This beef did start because Draymond was making fun of Shaq for losing in 2004, so that seems to be the reference point.

It would cool if there was an AI that could analyze these kinds of comparisons and then run 1000 simulations and based on the results of those 1000 simulations spit out an entire game or series to watch that would best mimic what would occur.

I think people use NBA 2k for this sort of thing. I know they do it with Madden.
If those advance to the point of being somewhat reliable, it would be very fun to watch some of these hypothetical matchups.

Yes but that is just for fun. You can't take those results seriously. I think the results are just random based on player and team ratings.
I think a lot more would have to go in to getting a credible result especially over different eras.
