I'm confused today. I want to cheer USA but I'm a tribe similar to @grayruby's so because of my love for my homeland can't root for a team that has won everyone's heart all of a sudden. Anyways, I've decided to cheer for both the teams because I found out that many of USA players were once Indians.
Yes, it's a match featuring common opponents today as India take on USA with the winner confirmed of a place in the Super Eights. Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav have played together with Saurabh Netravalkar and Harmeet Singh. Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli were once teammates with Milind Kumar - one with Delhi and the other with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Axar Patel and Monank Patel were roommates during age-level tournaments in Gujarat. And today, all these players will be up against each other in an attempt to see their home team win and progress to the next phase of the tournament.

Toss Update -

India have won the toss and have opted to field

Pitch Report -

Another glorious day with hardly any cloud in the sky. We're playing on the same wicket as yesterday, the square boundaries are at 70m and 66m while the straight hit is at 72m. Pretty similar. bowlers will have to hit the hard lengths, batters can't really play the cross-batted shots. The bowlers will look to get the natural variation off a hard length and a back of the length. Chasing is the best way to go, IMO.

Preview -

The USA team has been riding high in the World Cup with two wins in two games. It has lived up to its pre-tournament claims of "eating" any opposition that comes on its way. "We are hungry, and are going to try to eat whoever comes in our way. I am sure the USA will do some upsets in the World Cup," US player Ali Khan had famously said before the start of the World Cup. They lived up to the words by beating Pakistan who came their way. But they could be in for a serious reality check on Wednesday.
Up next will be India, who could be a different beast. Upsets in Twenty20 are commonplace but this Indian team looks virtually fail-proof. On Wednesday, they will look to end the New York leg of the World Cup with a clean slate. The US team, which has never faced India in any format, will be up against a side that is full of IPL and T20 veterans.
Thank you so much for your consistent love and support for the live blog...
What do you think India would be happy with needing off the last over? What would the USA be looking to defend? I think anything around 10 required in the last over makes it really interesting
reply
I think India can chase even 15 if a proper batsman is out there.
Also, both batsmen are set now so I don't think they will let it till the last over.

Even more so now they have been given a 5 point run penalty. It’s a shame as it’s taken the edge off the game now.
reply
USA have been docked 5 penalty runs. They have gone past 60 seconds to start a new over 3 times in the innings. As per the new rules, that's a penalty
reply
I think it’s really tough to get 15 on this wicket though. If it was in the West Indies then it might be easier.
reply
Now, what do you say?
reply
Once they lost the 5 runs it was game over. I agree the batters were looking set before the penalty runs
reply
USA team is a great story. Hard not to cheer for them but I don't think they will win this match.
reply
I also think the same but who knows!!
reply
Can’t drop easy catches and expect to win against India though.
reply
Just a hypothetical: how easy would it be to fix a match? I don't trust these US guys.
reply
Hypothetically very easy I would think. Some of the USA team are not full time paid cricketers and even those that are don’t earn huge amounts.
Having said that I don’t think USA would, simply because of their pride in what they have achieved so far.
I was at the famous England v Pakistan game at lords where they fixed parts of the match by bowling no balls so even the bigger teams can be targeted by match fixers. I hope now though that it’s much more difficult to do.
There was a great documentary in the UK about match fixing and they agree signals before a game so no mobile phones etc doesn’t matter. For example they would tap their right leg 3 times and then scratch their nose before bowling a no ball.
reply
I don't think so. Nowadays there is no fixing in international games.
reply
Thanks for that great information.
reply
Lol, this isn't a league match. It's an international game played under the conditions of a lot of surveillance. You're not even allowed to use cellphones privately 24 hours before the games .
reply
Graphene OS with no SIM over WiFi?
reply
They don't have the luxury of using a phone.
reply
3 wickets down for India. Can the USA do it? India under a bit of pressure now but still think India have enough to see the game through.
reply
USA is in the driver's seat now. India is under immense pressure actually..
reply
Agree, the pressure keeps building the more the required run rate goes up.
reply
I wish I could watch.
reply
Are you busy?
reply
Yes. I'm at the doctor's, then work
reply
Ahh!! Okay. I hope everything's fine.
reply
All is well. Thanks
reply
USA is India's B team anyways lol so you can support both 😂

The gamble to host a World Cup in the USA is proving to be an eye-opener for the present day cricket fans who have gradually seen the game incline towards a more batter friendly environment. The pitch has made batters think before swinging blindly towards the shortest parts of the field. 'It's only in New York, Dallas saw good scores'
reply

USA have scored 110 runs in 20 overs.

Do you think it will be challenging for men in blue?
reply
i am a die heart fan of India.
reply
US is batting better the last few overs but they are going to need some major production to have a chance.
reply
Quick question. The Indian fielder made a great jumping catch in front of the boundary. If he had not caught the ball and it bounced off his hand and over the boundary would it be a 6 or a 4?
reply
reply
Thanks. Similar to baseball where if the fielder accidentally knocks it over the fence it is a homerun.
reply
Good question for us baseball guys. @carlosfandango gave me a little tutorial last week.
reply
US playing very well.
I'll come up with a post that will accurately define the similarities and the differences between both these games.
Yes, there are many other similarities in Cricket and Baseball.
reply
USA are blocking evrything now. They are playing so defensive. This way they can't cross 100 run mark.
