Notice how not even once does CoinDesk mention that EthPoW (Eth Proof-of-work) fork is not only possible, it's looking very likely it will occur, to some degree or another. Will it support all the existing hashrate? No. But if it happens, the amount of GPUs continuing to perform Ethash for whatever the EthPOW fork gets called.
The most likely outcome after Ethereum moves to PoS may be that miners distribute their rigs across different networks that support GPU mining, as well as other applications to get “salvage value,” the note said, adding that as the transition approaches, mining pools will likely transition relatively smoothly.
Umm, ... no. The most likely outcome will be a global price drop in the cost for a used GPU, as GPUs from a half decade ago up through current models get liquidated, and gamers the world over will be rejoicing in that.
