Today, I suddenly jumped to my profile to have a look at my bio. I was just casually thinking to add something to it. I forgot editing my bio because to my surprise I had already accomplished something that I had taken an oath for — A Never Ending Cowboy Streak.
When I joined stacker news in Feburary this year, there were relatively many new things. One of those things was the status of Cowboy. TBH, at first I thought that it was some kind of a perk that you could for a subscription. But as I couldn't find any subscription button or anything like that, I got envious of those who held it after their nyms. Surely, that was the fault of my unawareness, not of SN or stackers.
Thankfully, I also got one after a while. At first I just didn't realise why I was awarded that and thought I wouldn't lose it. But, I lost it the very next day and it went on and off a few days more. Then came MSM and things changed. My cowboy hat started showing numbers in double digits after a few days and it actually went till 35 or 36.
Then for not so big a reason, I lost it. To confess the reality, I became sad. I tried to console myself that I would get it again. But I thought like I wasted some accomplishment and then the on and off switch started again. It went like that for a few days until I read one of my PPP friend @cryotosensei's post about the importance of having a cowboy hat.
After reading the post, I went straight to the saloon and made a commitment that I'm never gonna loose my 'Cowboy Hat' from now. Idk if I should take it that way but it surely sounds like one of my greatest accomplishments here on SN. I've completed a 51 day streak that resembles to a 'half century done in Cricket'.
It feels like an accomplishment more because when I look at the 'top Cowboys', I'm currently sitting at no. 26. Considering SN is already three years old and many stackers would have had 50 days streak, I'm at 26 because most have them lost their hat in some tempests.
I want to share one more thing. I still don't know or actually never tried to know what advantages does this hat have to offer. It's only caught my atention because it just makes me more punctual which I've never been in my life. So, if becoming punctual is one accomplishment, the credit goes to SN Cowboy Hat.
You may call it funny but I would always rank this Cowboy Hay Streak as my biggest accomplishment so far her on SN.
I'm also curious to listen what's the one that is your biggest accomplishment here on SN and Why?
Thanks for reading!! Sats for all...
I posted every day for almost a year until recently when I missed a couple days.
reply
That was no small feat. And you're still posting often in Stacker_Sports.
I tried posting every day with the NBA recaps, and didn't even last a month. Turns out, it takes time and effort to actually write out posts; and if it's going to SN, it is time taken away from wife and kids. Posting weekly suits my lifestyle better.
reply
It’s really important to find the right balance.
reply
Agreed.
reply
Do you follow CFL?
reply
No, I don't follow any American football, be it NFL or CFL. I did go to a BC Lions game once when I was little. They gave out free tickets to schools and I went with my buddies at the time. I forgot whether it was in elementary school or high school, but I sat in the game and didn't really have any idea what I was watching.
I eventually learned the rules of American football, and do watch the Superbowl each year; but my knowledge of American football is pretty much limited to that.
reply
I haven’t been to a CFL game in probably almost 30 years, but I will usually watch the grey cup and follow what the Argos were doing. I flipped on the Argos vs Elks game last night for a few minutes which is why I asked. Was wondering if you were a Lions fan.
reply
I think the last time I saw a Lions game on TV was their Grey Cup championship game in 2011. I remember they won that year. The Grey Cup game is being played in Vancouver this year though.
reply
Ahhh! You must have been very sad then??
reply
Not really. Even the best streaks come to an end.
reply
Mine won't!!
reply
That was an impressive run. What was more impressive was that each of those posts were unique and took work. It wasn't just posting a mindless link.
reply
“Took work” is a generous way to describe it but I will take the compliment. Thanks.
reply
Don’t call me out like that man

I think I have just two, but I am somewhat new.
  1. #562734 - I posted a top post one of the weeks on how Bitcoin plays into the minimalist movement. I had a fun time throwing this one together.
  2. The other one is I am on a 20 day streak! Pretty proud about this tbh, and hopefully I can mantain this and get to 30-50-60 days+. Trying to prioritize!

That's a really good post.

The code for SN is open source. You can see exactly how the cowboy hat is coded and how it works if you dig into the source code. You can find the SN GitHub depository by clicking on the GitHub icon on the bottom of every SN page.
For myself, I think my biggest accomplishment here is starting and still writing the weekly hiking/adventure posts. There are 28 of these posts so far, and this week will be number 29. I don't know how much more content I have to write however many more posts, but the hiking posts will go on, for now...
reply
Thanks!
Although, I knew it very well from the starting that SN is open sourced and I could see how the 'hat works', I didn't try it just for the sake of my interest.
Must say, you've accomplished great adventurous in life. Hiking is my new love and very soon I'm gonna go to one of the toughest hiking adventures in the world in Kinnaur Kailash...
reply
Nice! be sure to share your adventure afterwards. Looking forward to seeing it.

Thanks! Will me making a video as well..

Learning what assmilk means. Everyone knew but me.
reply
You must know it. This isn't expected from veteran Cowboys.
reply
I'm not kidding. I have certain blind spots.
reply
I only picked it up from context. I certainly wasn't going to ask.
reply
Are you assmilking this post by sharing about assmilking? lol
reply
Wait. Maybe I don't understand it.
reply
Contributing to the source code is easily my biggest accomplishment
reply
Now you are just showing off!
reply
lol everyone has a part to play. You create wonderful content
reply
No kidding
reply
Don't forget to wear a cowboy hat on work that's your accomplishment now!
reply

reply
Keep it up. But don't forget to put your cap on your head...

I had the top post twice in a row in the ~booksandarticles weekly newsletter, which I'd say was my biggest accomplishment here.
reply
Wow! I never had that but I would love to accomplish this!
Did you wear hat on those occasions?
reply
I could consider my greatest achievement in SN everything I have learned since I have been here, which is no small thing, I think that is what you take at the end of each place you get involved in, the experience and the knowledge gained.
reply
Learning is always there if you can hold onto your hat like a staunch believer!!!
reply
As long as we're talking about cowboy hats, I'd like to shamelessly plug this old post of mine.
Good job!
I think I had a non-trivial effect on getting people to increase their zapping, after writing Optimal Zapping on Stacker News. If so, that's my biggest accomplishment.
reply
I consider myself er new here and the way one of my posts about 'Bitcoin Philosophy' had good reception. That inspired me so I say that's my biggest achievement....
reply
Thanks for letting me know the impact my musing had.
Surprisingly, my greatest achievement was influenced by you. I’m so proud that I discovered Markdown n have learnt some tricks, thanks to you posting a question.
