What are typical credit card rates in your country?
This Reddit link was shared in a group I'm part of and I'm shocked to read that 12% is considered normal in some parts of the world. Where I'm at, this would be a textbook loanshark predatory rate...

I don't use credit cards, but I know in the US rates in the 20s are not unusual.

reply

In the UK I think 34.9% is the norm these days.

reply

South Dakota has no usury laws.

Delaware used to be a credit card hub

reply

I only use debit cards, never credit cards, but I know that here in Portugal the maximum rate allowed is 16%.

I don't use credit cards though in India it's 42%.

12% or 16% is too less.

reply

42?! Damn...

For once, that's not the answer to life ;)

In South Africa, we're sitting with 11.75% to around 22.25%, I can qualify for a rate of 15% with a credit score of 690, card is 55 days interest free so I use it as my bank account while I stack sats with my salary lol

I have super crime credit and most of my cards are between 20 & 29%.

Here in the U.S. they often provide a 12-month period of 0% interest, and on the 13th month a 29% rate kicks in. This is on the verge of predatory. In fact, several people I know with a few thousand dollar balances cannot get out of debt, they are on this vicious cycle.

reply

Super crime lol

reply

Between 20 and 25%. A crime.
People should borrow crypto it they really want to borrow and destroy credit cards.

reply

Not related to the OP's question, but I take pride in not owning any, by choice.

The truth is that here in Lima Peru the interest rates on credit cards are quite affordable... and we could also say that the currency in circulation which is the Nuevo Sol... is quite stable.

reply

I do use my credit card sometimes because, sadly, it’s the only card number I remember and so can be used anytime needed 🤣 never had to pay any interest yet.. but yeah, unbelievable.

reply

Oww men, thank God for bitcoin

Australia Interest rates on credit cards in Australia are relatively high compared to some other countries, with typical APRs ranging from 10% to 20%.

here in Nigeria the Central Bank of Nigeria's monetary policy rate, which influences lending rates, was recently adjusted to 26.25% in May 2024.

reply

It's around 40% in india

reply

This seems extremely normal in the US. So that's how people get fucked living on credit...

reply

12 percent if you are lucky 🍀 in USA lol

reply

Actually, I've asked around. Seems this is normal too here. Guess i never paid attention as i always pay back on time when i use my credit card... I stand corrected.

reply

24.9% would be the legal maximum

reply

I use debit a lot of the time.
I have been told I should really start using a credit card to get "points", but that means I have to spend more and more money to accumulate them.
I just dont think it is really worth it.
