In July 2022, I decided to start streaming bitcoin-only games on Twitch. The goal was to showcase bitcoin games, spread bitcoin education and encourage bitcoiners to venture into bitcoin game streaming on platforms like Twitch, Youtube, and even Facebook Games (yes, Facebook Games exists πŸ˜‚).
So I started my Twitch channel and purposely set it up just like any other gamer's channel that you see on Twitch. I created similar overlays, panels, stingers, music, the whole 9 yards. The only difference is that I was only going to play bitcoin games and talk about bitcoin.
In order to make my stream bitcoin-only, I set up the Zebedee QR code widget for donations on my stream and I do satoshi giveaways to engage my viewers. I also set up a Discord dedicated to bitcoin gamers called The Bitcoin Gamers' Circle where I share all the tutorials I used to set up my Twitch stream, log my journey as a bitcoin-only streamer, and share tips from what I learned along the way.
It's been almost 2 months now that I've been doing this and my stream has gotten better and better. I'm almost going to hit my Twitch Affiliate goal and I hope to hit Twitch Partner next year.
I've already had my first sponsorship and a bitcoin gaming company has reached out to me to play one of their games on my live stream.
So why am I writing this?
I wanted to show you that if you're a bitcoiner and you have an interest in bitcoin games, there is an audience out there who would be interested to watch you play. There are also bitcoin companies out there that would be interested in sponsoring what you do.
I've by no means achieved the height of the potential available in bitcoin gaming. But I wanted to share this with you because I believe this could be a unique way to orange pill more people and showcase an interesting use case for bitcoin.
Got any questions? Let me know below.
Well meant recommendation:
Play mainstream games, they give way more views.
You can still advertise and receive your donations with Lightning.

That's a good point!
I wanted to start with bitcoin games first to show proof of concept. But the good news is that through Zebedee Infuse, I can play Counter Strike and earn sats as I play. I'm still figuring out how to set that up. As soon as I do, I'll be playing Counter Strike.

What do you think are some of the lowest hanging fruits for the integration of lightning into games?
reply
Personally, integrating lightning into games helps to get people to keep playing the games. Sat rewards act as a great incentive. I personally love ThndrGames' approach to bitcoin gaming. Their users play games and earn sats and they have an awesome referral program that encourages these users to get their friends to download the games and play them too. The referral program gives the users an added opportunity to earn more sats as they refer.
On the game development side, Zebedee has made it easy for game developers to integrate lightning into their games. According to an article I read by Zebedee, this integration has helped some of their partners experience a significant increase in app downloads.
I hope this answers your question @SatSqueezer.

What are the current list of Bitcoin games that you play on your channel?
reply
So far, on my Twitch channel I've played:
  • Turbo 84
  • Bitcoin Bounce
  • Satsss (Bitcoin Snake)
  • Lightning Crush
  • Sats-man
But I have a list of bitcoin games that I'm compiling. You can check my full list of bitcoin games here: https://glen-plume-b3f.notion.site/42bfff1c6e9e4c7bb3f8ae1245e991ed?v=ebe6982f862647c2abf02abbe4e1f437

Hey Mary, just wanted to let you know about satbattle.com
We launched recently, and hope to grow your list of games :).
Our platform is 100% lightning powered.
reply
Thank you so much for telling me about SatBattle! I'll add the games there to my list. I might play some of the games on my Twitch channel as well.
reply
That would be awesome! Hope you like it.

I think I'm already addicted to Wall to Wall πŸ˜‚ Do you plan to have the games in an app someday?
reply
We're considering it but it's a bit tough to have multiple games in a single app.
Did you try the website on your phone?
reply
Your app doesn’t load on my iPhone - just a white screen. You should add an ErrorBoundary component to catch critical errors.
reply
Should be fixed now
reply
Hey thanks for letting me know. It seems to be not working at the moment for ios or macos safari.
reply
Notion is a cool resource. I might have to try it.
Have you tried making a bot to play these games for you?
reply
Yeah, Notion is very cool app. People do all sorts of awesome stuff with it.
No, I've never considered making a boy to play the games for me. I don't think it's something I'd like to do πŸ˜…
reply
You could also show users how to spend those sats, like bitrefill or pay with Moon.
reply
That's a great idea! I know someone who uses the sats he wins from playing bitcoin games to buy things from Bitrefill.
reply
Try to show all the process once a week, or a tutorial, getting a wallet, a lightning address, showing the benefits, like privacy, because many of women are doxxed from time to time.
Try to use more private servics like stacker.news, that doesn't require an email neither an verified account. Use lighting login.
Basically the live of a Bitcoiner that try to minimize the leaks of personal data.

By bitcoin games do you mean games that earn you bitcoin for playing?
I don't really understand that concept. I play games for fun. I wouldn't mind playing a game I like for money, but I have trouble imagining that as the case, more likely i'd get paid to play games I don't particularly like.
reply
By bitcoin games, I actually mean games that have lightning integration that gives users the opportunity to win sats as they play the game.
Bitcoin games are one of the many use cases of bitcoin. There are so many bitcoin games and it's unlikely not to find one that doesn't interest you. Most of the bitcoin games are actually fun.

You can use ZBD Streamer to receive tips and interact with your audience. And use ZEBEDEE App to be on the loop of all Bitcoin games! zebedee.io/app to get started!

ZBC streamer is exactly what I use. I think it's great! I love how the messages show on the screen during the live stream. I also used the Zebedee wallet for game related stuff. I do all my giveaways with Zebedee. I think it's pretty cool.
