I'm not sure if it's malice when you're indifferent to the truth. I just think he's a sophist and he'll say whatever he thinks might persuade people to his side.

Krugman is also a sophist, but I think he might also be narcistic enough that he wants to have the appearance of great intellectual sophistication.
