This has happened a lot to mothers of sick children. Doctors who are frustrated and cannot find a cause have a handy diagnosis of "Munchausen Syndrome" to fall back on. The prosecutors and juvenile court judges are happy to press charges against the mother when the Doctor makes a formal accusation. This happened to my wife in 1998 and we found multiple other mothers who had the same thing happen to them.
