Concerns about Olympic athletes contracting diseases due to the rats living in Paris have arisen following heavy rains that collapsed their burrows, causing them to emerge throughout the city after having previously hidden beneath it.
It has become a common sight to see rats attacking people these days, and even Olympic athletes are not spared, leading to widespread fear for personal safety.
According to reports, these rats are as large as cats, and the number in the French capital is 4 million—twice the population of 2 million.
The journalist who wrote the report said: "I was having dinner at a restaurant in the suburbs of Percy when we were attacked by rats during our meal, which caused concern for newcomers to Paris like myself. However, Parisians seemed to handle the situation normally, as if it were part of their daily routine."
Doctors have highlighted significant health risks associated with this phenomenon due to rat droppings, which can cause diseases potentially leading to liver and kidney damage. Consequently, organizers canceled a scheduled training session for swimmers because of the high levels of contamination in the Seine River.
