I just got this message through linkedin. That's more econ job openings at one place than I've ever seen. From scrolling through, they appear to mostly be with the IRS and based outside of DC. In a normal job market year, there are fewer than 1000 economist job openings in the entire country, IIRC.
Does anyone know what this is?
If they have 500 economists on staff they can say “we have 500 economists and they all say we can borrow forever”
reply
So, your theory is that they already had 113 economists and decided to staff up for the sake of this PR gimmick? Maybe.
reply
Alternatively maybe they know they are screwed and are hoping one of the 500 can figure out a way to fix it.
reply
There’s a chance that it’s just some sort of reorganization. One of the universities I was at did something like that.
On paper it looked like they had fired and hired tons of people, when really they were just shuffling the deck chairs around.
reply
You should apply. It’s a government job; how hard can it be. You could probably work both jobs and still post on SN all day.
reply
You’re probably right, but I’d rather work towards having zero fake jobs than having multiple.
reply
I feel there are a lot of jobs where you could do SN all day. SN isnt that intrusive, you can post whenever you want.
How hard is it to actually get a government job?
reply
Maybe Janet Yellen just wants to be the big dog in the econ world and say she employs more economists than Jerome Powell
reply
And she can present a letter signed by 300 economists!
reply
This is just a show off right before the elections!!
reply
Maybe, but I haven't heard anything about it in the news. It's just job notifications.
reply
This is jo campaigning for Dems!
reply
It takes a long time to create jobs like this. I'm sure you can appreciate the amount of bureaucratic red tape that might be involved. It'll take even longer to actually hire them all.
reply
I can understand the plight. After completing my education I applied for teaching positions in government schools and colleges. Most of those jobs which I applied to more than 5 years to complete the hiring process. Many waited for that to happen only wasting time. I was fortunate that I was working in a good private school and didn't have to bear the loss of time. I'm sure, it won't take years in US?
reply
It’ll probably take about a year to fill each position, but many of them won’t be filled. There just aren’t enough economists looking for work to fill them.
reply
Thanks! I'll just bring to some of my old students' notice that they can migrate to US for jobs!
reply
Sorry, the Feds only hire American citizens.
reply
Ahh! Reservation there as well!
reply
That will be only as long as they can fill them. Its easy for the government to issue a greencard.
We need some bitcoiners to trojan horse the Department of Treasury! Too bad I can't stand government workers lol.
reply
I don't think these positions are the right attack vector. They may as well be university research positions for all the influence they'll have. From what I saw, they're just doing regular old economic research.
reply
not a value creator in sight
reply
Maybe the people that werent paying their taxes are being fired?
reply
I wondered about that. Maybe
reply
I remember a post on it the other day. But were those just regular workers? I would feel economist would have more morals than that.
reply
I didn’t follow that story in detail, but I doubt they would have distinguished economists from other employees.
reply
It does seem like a bit of coincidence that they are happening around the same time.
reply
I'd have our dog apply if the fuckers had not deleted his Linkedin profile...
They're using shitty AI to nuke accounts over there now, so its a bit of work getting in with spoofed IDs!
Would happily spend weeks gaming it if I had gotten in on Bitcoin early, that type of trolling would be great to take the system down, totally open for funding of ops like that haha ;-)
reply
I'm afraid your dog will have to continue earning his living honestly.
reply
Hehehe!!
Online these days the only honest work IS fucking up the system ;-)
Offline he's doing what he can of course :-)
