Haha!! I didnt even realize that was in the photo! I will have to ask his parents what time is his team!
What is framed are the two lineup cards from Josh Bailey's (likely only) hat trick! Being from Houston I didn't have an NHL team, my mom is from Chicago so I followed the Blackhawks during their dynasty teams, and when I was in Long Island staying at the Ronald McDonald House before and after my brain surgeries the Islander wives came in and cooked dinner for us one night.
Bailey's wife saw I was wearing a Chicago Blackhawks hoodie and started talking with me and my ex (who was a Columbus Blue Jackets fan wearing a hoodie) and long story short she got my mom, my ex's mom, my ex and I tickets to the game ($250 a piece for what it was worth), we got to high five the players when the went out for warmups and then after the game got to meet with Josh Bailey and talk with him. Such a cool moment and something that forever made me a Josh Bailey fan!
That is the best reply I have ever read on Stacker News! Thanks for sharing.
I am a lifelong Islanders fan. I went to a few games in 1972. Sorry to hear about your health issues. Was that MacDonald house in Herricks? New Hyde Park? Either Jericho tpke or Hillside Avenue?

It was a wild stroke of luck thing looking back at it! When he was traded to Chicago I was PUMPED but of course they immediately cut him and he didn't catch on anywhere. I hated and still continue to hate Lane Lambert for how he treated Bailey his last year. Benching him 2 or 3 games before his 1,000 game resulting in him playing his 1,000 as an Islander not at home was criminal. Not to mention he finished with 1,057 regular season games as an Islander in third place behind Denis Potvin who had 1,060.
The guy was a huge X factor in the playoffs every year it seemed. He was never the splashiest guy but he was part of those incredible playoff runs that pushed Tampa to the max. 15 years with one team is wild in sports nowadays and looking and seeing if he had played 64 games for the Islanders last year he would have moved into 1st place in games played for them is just another wild career fact

Yep. He had those intangibles that are so important in hockey. I think @grayruby and stacker sports territory would enjoy this thread.

The New York fans were always quick to hate on him and ignore the good hockey he played. I was a little surprised the Islanders didn't pick him up on a veterans minimum last season when they were dealing with just plain sucking

You're right. There was a good Lighthouse Hockey podcast tribute to him. Most of my friends appreciate him, but he has his haters.

Yes, just read the story. Awesome story.

That moment and that experience were huge for me in my recovery. I was turning 21, had just had my third surgery, wasn't in college with all my friends, stuck wearing a C collar for 6 months but that experience was just undescribably positive. It gave me something to look forward to as well because I immediately bought the NHL.tv package for the Islanders. Just cannot say enough good things about Bailey and his wife!

Amazing. It's great when athletes make an effort to use their notoriety and time to enrich someone else's life.
