  • liquidity issues like inbound/outbound capacity(lightning is a second layer which is totally different from the mainchain one, it is a smart contract for users to transact in bitcoin without broadcasting any trx once a channel is setup. It needs both parties successfully connected and move their bitcoin to an address for the lightning smart contract first. When transacting, two parties have to look at the capacity depends on the contract they made. Sometimes both parties are not necessarily directly connected so they route the trx with other channels in between. Usually it is the shortest and cheapest path for both parties to connect with each other.
Lightning Labs made a lot of effort to provide tools to manage these issues and make it more possible for average users to use Lightning in a non-custodial way.
-yes custodial Lightning is everywhere. But it can be super expensive.
It is not really necessary to run a full desktop LN routing node in order to enjoy LN in your life. Run private LN nodes, even on your mobile devices and most of those issues are gone.

You are right but this is a thing about early days technologies. Hopefully will improve soon.
The Bitcoin community has a good track record with stuff like this. Unlike the Linux community where developers make 99% of the heavy lifting and then forget the last steps to make it nice and user friendly.
I'm optimistic.
