With Mutiny Wallet announcing their future end of life. I (as with many others here) started looking for an replacement lighting wallet.
@Bell_curve mention CoinOS in a post about Mutiny (#636928)
I previous hand written off CoinOS as an option because it required an email address to setup but I decide to check them out again. Much to my surprise I was able to spin up a new wallet with in seconds (which was one of the best features of Mutiny)
CoinOS is far more custodial then Mutiny and I would not use if for large sums of Sats.
But it is now in my tool box if I need to real quickly test something or onboard someone quick (#548942)
non-KYC custodial wallets are a very good tool if you want to master your funds on LN, are the perfect decoy if you know how to use it and a perfect method to manage your self-custodial wallets.
This adversity against custodial services is not necessary and is working against you.
CoinOS is one of the best tools to have around, together with Walletano, Alby, Lifpay, Blink etc.
Even SN wallet can be a powerful tool...

It's actually just a webln connection for a browser extension wallet. So you can connect your Alby and just use this as a face for it. It's also (hopefully obviously) just for fun. You can use your Alby or another extension wallet with it, but there's no utility except a different look.
All this to say, you need to connect the browser extension wallet before you can do anything.
Here's another one for a different feel. https://arcadewallet.vercel.app/

Thanks@ you just made it simple for me. Now I know which ones are good.

I think I saw you recommending this wallet as a good option for converting on-chain sats to LN. Am I remembering that correctly?
reply
Yes
reply
CoinOS gives you 3 options for receiving:
Lightning on-chain Liquid
reply
You might have to elaborate a little. I'm not sure if that answered my question or not. If I receive on-chain, is it easy to spend those sats in a lightning transaction?
reply
They have support on Telegram
Here is the answer from the founder of CoinOS:
Yes if you deposit into Coinos on-chain you can withdraw over Lightning or Liquid and it will just work, you don't need to do anything special to convert the funds beforehand. You'll be charged a 0.1% fee for the conversion.

Very cool!

Breez is pretty awesome: it just works and is not intimidating (while providing a complete suit of lower level debugging tools)
That's my defacto recommendation to newcomers.
reply
I've had issues with Breeze finding routes where I had no issues with other like Phoenix or Zeus. I like Breeze but that issue is one I don't want new comers to have.

When did you try it last? Routing has been greatly improved recently

Been a while. 6 months probably

I understand: it happened to me too!
They have this great guide that solved all my issues.
Hopefully, they can address these issues soon.

Does breez have Bolt12 integration?

Not yet. If you really need this I would use Phoenix or Zeus.
reply
My understanding is that Zeus has it... but only with 'remote' (ie selfhosted) CLN nodes (so you need a CLN node first).
Phoenix has pulled out of the app store. My understanding is that it can still be accessed but I don't want to 'lose a channel' as a us user easier. Thank you!

CoinOS is so great! It's what my kids are now using as their "spend" wallet. On one level, I'm kind of excited to talk to them about how wise it was to separate their savings and spend wallet when the inevitable kick out or pull out of the US comes though...
reply
CoinOS is based in Canada
Being browser vs app is another buffer
reply
…good point. But also… I know their passwords! These kids are getting rugged one way or another! Mwahahahaha
reply
I'm not gonna use coin.os. it's not Even better than WOS.

Yes! Finally!

I think many folks may not know this but for things that require an email you can use simple login to create email aliases and not expose your real address to a site/service.
Use that as you see fit, not requiring an email address is always better but I recommend people not use their main email address all over the Internet. Just asking for trouble.

good advice

Simple login is a good service

Just diversify your wallets as @DarthCoin says! I'm doing it and would suggest the same.

U rirght, just email needed, nice find. Thank You

CoinOS is one of he few that I've seen that works with damned near every stacking app. It's the only one I can consistently get withdrawals from Fountain and Slice to work with. I don't think I've ever had an issue with it.

For LBTC on the fly i've been using Marina wallet in my browser, have had some issues with swaps to LN but otherwise it's been a good experience

This is so good for students!!!

from telegram: Shoutout to Jan on X. @adamsoltys & I were on his podcast recently. He also had Samson Mow on 1 of his episodes. Jan is located in Colombia and he's looking to onboard merchants there and get rid of Wallet Of Satoshi which is what some merchants in Colombia are currently using.
According to him and the people he is in close contact with there, they don't like using Wallet Of Satoshi.

Thanks!
The email requirement is annoying but I also used Wallet of Satoshi in the past
Either is fine for small amounts
Edit: I completely forgot coinOS supports liquid too!
Also based in Canada Web based so don’t have to worry about App Store shenanigans

You also get nostr pub key
