Dear stackers, Olympics are over. As we reach mid-August, we are getting closer to a new football season (or soccer if you prefer) in Europe. As you all know, @coinsreporter has done an incredible job with an Olympic and cricket pool competition during the summer months. I have been thinking about organizing a football pool.
After considering different options, I think the best one is to run a pool linked to the UEFA Champions league results. This is the main European competition, where best teams of Europe battle for the European Championship.
This year, the rules have changed a bit, and it seems that it might be more interesting than previous years. There will be 36 teams fighting each other to get to the last 16 round.
Each team will play against 8 teams in this initial pool stage. 4 matches at home and 4 away. The best 8 teams will go through to the last 16 round. Then, from 9th to 24th will battle in a playoff. The winners will fight to get to the final at München against the best 8 teams from the pool stage.
So, the matches will be held between mid-September 2024 and the end of January 2025, with the play-off in February. Please note that not every week between these months will hold matches.
To start with, once we know the full list of teams qualified for the pool stage, on august 29th, I will ask for a list of 8 teams which you consider will qualify at the top of pool stage. You will get 3 points for each team you get it right at the end of the pool stage and it will be added to the table.
Then, I will be posting the Monday before of competition up to 6 matches involving different teams from each country. Stackers should provide a result of each match.
You will get:
3 points for a victory
1 point for a draw
0 points for a loss
0 points for a loss
In addition, if you propose the exact result of the match, you will get 2 additional points. On Thursdays, I will post the standings for each week.
Finally, I will award the same points to each match at the play-off round.
All points will be added at the end of February and sats will be sent to the best stackers at the conclusion of this initial stage on February 19th.
Pool prize
As in the Olympic pool, I will accumulate all sats generated through the UEFA Champions League prediction posts. After the 10 weeks of competition, and considering a deduction of 10% in fees, 50% of sats will be awarded to the top stacker, 30% to the second and 20% to the third.
The enrolment for this competition will run from August 30th to September 15th.
