So they do not confirm or deny they have any files on Satoshi.
They refer to him as a third party individual but that doesn't really mean anything.
I read this as basically no new information other than the FBI is refusing to provide any info. They may have no info. They may have info and are refusing to supply it.
Am I missing something?

That's seems highly probable. The FBI would not want to say that. Saying it this way they aren't lying but also give an impression that could be false. Classic FBI behavior.
