I feel like I wrote a book here lol I hope this helps.
It didn't appeal to me because I don't listen to music on the Bill100. I never felt like it represented the music I liked, more like how much money a record label can spend. So the game theory is off for me. I would do better by choosing an artist I know is really popular with a big record label than just choosing a song I liked.
Which brings me to my suggestion:
  • look for a better leaderboard than the Billboard 100. It's different with sports because there is usually just one leaderboard, but music is all about people's mood, taste, mental state, and mostly the language they speak or like to hear. Bill100 is English + American centric, and mostly pop.
    • I see others stackers
      • posting international songs on a regular basis, and as SN grows and keeps attracting more of an international crowd this will only increase.
      • posting more off beat artists than the one's on the on the bill100.
      • posting songs from their music era. ie 80s, 90s, 00s, etc.
All that said, I can't make a better suggestion for a leaderboard that includes these points. The intersection for gambling and music is also very limited. I can only think of one situation.
Which brings me to an actual idea (this is way more work but could be a hit):
  • build a SN Battle Of The Jams pool
    • stackers enter the pool by posting a song with an entry fee (this is for a pool minimum, and should be as low as possible)
    • everyone's song starts at zero/last spot
      • the songs move up the leaderboard by how many/much zaps it receives over the course of a week.
      • stackers stack sats in real time by their song being liked by others, which brings in more curations and engagement. sats moving around.
    • at the end of the week you can have 1 winner takes all or top 3 winners split some varying % of the pool.
  • more gamification:
    • create a daily post with updated leaderboard stats. referencing the entry comment for each song on the list.
      • keeps original post fresh and active, more sats for votes
      • gets more stackers aware of the event
      • gives you another way to get more sats for your work
    • once a month you can have a themed SN.BOTJ - highlight a genre, time period, or a location/langauge from around the world to include more stackers.
    • once a quarter you can have a bigger buy in pool for the all the previous winners go jam to jam.
  • what's in for you? idk, hopefully you love music lol
    • take a % and split it between some going to ~music to help pay for the space and some to you for organizing the events
    • accept donations that fund both of those
    • maybe the zaps on your posts will be enough

Thank you so much! This is a great suggestion!
I started with something similar you suggested #650068. But, it was just that I couldn't come up with better idea for daily engagement and also I thought it might be better to involve some gamification to the pool, I revamped the pool and applied Billboard.
Now, definitely after listening to your views/idea, I've got every clue what and how to do a ~Music Pool.
That's why, I took this August time as a grace period. I didn't go with the main pool. You can see I've been asking for suggestions in every post about it.
Here are a few things, I couldn't get though?
  • SN Battle of the Jams?
  • SN.BOTJ?
  • What would be better to decide the winner/winners? Would it be the number of Stackers that zap or the number of Sats zapped on a particular song entry or decide it by the TOP filter?

I thought more about the sats amount vs the zaps amount. I think you are right, the winner/s should be based on the quantity of zaps. 1sat one vote.
or a mixture of the zaps amount and sats amount. I do think the entry should be as low as possible tho.

Thanks! I'm gonna lauch it today.

I'm glad you appreciated the suggestion.
I should have clarified better. Stacker News Battle of The Jams or SNBOTJ is a play on battle of the bands. Bands battle each other and the winner gets a prize. a jam is slang for a song. So stackers battle each other for the best song submission.
I would rather the winners be based on amount zapped. in the end that's all that matters.
Good luck!
