It's LoTR for me and it's not even remotely close. It's an absolute masterpiece of literature and the adaptation may be the best film trilogy of all time.
The world building and messages are so much deeper.
That's not really meant as a dig at Star Wars either. Star Wars was just intended to be a big fun action adventure, but was so popular that they felt the need to staple some world building on top of it.
That's why I was saying: you cannot compare them. Both are fascinating worlds and you should see them differently, in their own way and story.

They can't be compared but we may have a preference. Something tells me you would have only star wars if one had to go.
reply
It's a completely reasonable take. It's also an ironic one when you make it.

currently watching the series "Rings of Power". Absolutely fascinating story!

Are you caught up? My wife and I have been watching it. I think there are a lot of interesting things going on, but I find the writing distractingly bad.
reply
when I watch a series / movie I do not care too much about the writing and bad actors. My first focus is on the story. Yes, is really interesting to see what was going on before the original LOTR.
Like with Star Wars... many people are looking only to how bad Disney was putting it but they forget or ignore the whole original story. That's why many are considering Darth Vader a villain when in fact he's not, is just the balance into the force.

There is so much great art out there. It has to be a complete package for me. And I can't follow grand epic stories. Like star wars, I love it, but I only watch the OG 70s trilogy.

I enjoyed Rogue One (which no one seems to like) and Andor (which everyone seems to like).
Rogue One is the immediate prequel to A New Hope and Andor is the prequel to Rogue One.
