I arrived in Peru when they sold you 6 loaves of bread for 1 sol, today it is 2 or 3 loaves of bread for 1 sol (0,26 cent), depending on the bakery and the quality of the bread; when I talk about bread, this is the reference in the photos, a very popular type of bread in Peru, I would dare to say that there is no Peruvian who does not buy this bread, it is what they eat for breakfast and snacks, it is even the bread they use to sell breakfasts in the "carts" selling emoliente (a Peruvian drink based on various plants). Fun fact: This bread is called "French bread."
Six years ago, this breakfast of two loaves of bread filled with French toast and a glass of quinoa cost 3 soles at a food cart or 5 soles at a local restaurant. Today, it costs 6 soles at a food cart and 8 soles at a local restaurant. When I refer to a local restaurant, I am talking about a small one, run by some micro-entrepreneur. If we talk about the price in a more renowned restaurant, it costs 15 soles for bread with French toast.
Search an app for prices at a popular restaurant for these Peruvian sandwiches:
This is the cheapest in this specific restaurant. Shredded chicken
Delicious free range chicken breast, boiled with fine herbs, light spices and served on crispy French bread with our homemade tartar sauce, lettuce and fresh tomatoes. Includes chili, ketchup, additional tartar sauce. 16,7 soles > 4,52 USD
This is the most expensive one, it is too delicious, the last time I ate it was 1 year and a half ago, the cost at that time was 18 soles, today it costs 26,4 soles > 6,90 USD
Loin The Fight

All prices are rising. It is a shame.

Yes, and prices stay the same or are increased. The other day I saw a toilet paper roll that had shrunk. I was super surprised.

One day it might be 1000 sats for just a lil bit of food
reply
It’s roughly 10,000 sats for majority of things

Does the increase in the food prices track the "published" rate of inflation? Or is it more?
So those little bread rolls - they're actually also filled with french toast? In other words - bread with a bread (and a little eggs) inside?
reply
According to the INFOBAE website, inflation has been 20% in 4 years, but my husband and I have done the math, and the numbers are higher.
The breads without fillings are sold 2 or 3 for 1 sol (0.20 cents). The breads in the emoliente carts or restaurants sell these breads with different fillings, it can be with: chicken, cheese, egg, avocado, meat, pork rinds, black olives, the bread with the most illogical filling that I have seen has been bread filled with tamales.
Bread with chicken is not sold at the same price as bread with cheese. For example, bread with chicken costs 2.50 soles (0.7 cents) today. Bread filled with cheese is sold for 2 soles (0.53 cents). Six years ago, these breads cost 1 sol each, even with the filling.

Is Peruvian sol their fiat against sol?
reply
Everywhere you go you can see the inflation in action even if is 1,2 or 3 country, the idea of explaining it in sats it’s ok for the “culture” but you can do this with all currencies except usd… things are bad everywhere

Something very noticeable when looking at the Charts is the false idea that has been stealthily planted in our brains 🧠 that good money is the dollar. In the USDPEN examples we see how we need more and more soles to obtain 1 USD and on the other hand we have the PENUSD showing how we acquire less and less dollars with 1 PEN. And it is something that we observe when we compare any other FIAT currency against the dollar. And then that leads us to the fact that the dollar has lost 98% of its value since its FIAT creation in 1971 when they broke with the gold standard, and if we go back to when it was created under the bimetallism standard in 1792 when it was first minted its value was the equivalent of an 8 Spanish Real. Then in 1900 we went solely to the gold standard, which was then set at 35 USD per Ounce in 1934 until the aforementioned joke of 1971 when they broke with that standard and set the new Fiat standard. And I say joke because former President Nixon used the word "Temporarily" in his speech 🤭 and since then it has been 53 years 🤣

It is very true that the purchasing power based on food in Peru has been increasingly lower since I emigrated from my country Venezuela to Peru. The economy has remained stable but the value of the sol is not the same. It has been devalued little by little, which no longer allows you to buy the same things you bought two or three years ago. Now you must gather more fiat money to be able to have a relatively complete market.
