Mainstream Media gatekeepers were working overtime, as usual, to paint the candidate they don't like in a bad light. However, this time it back fired on them and now Canadian media org CTV has had to issue an apology for airing a manipulated clip of Conservative leader, and likely future Prime Minister, Pierre Poilievre.
What happened: "Poilievre’s words had been edited to make it appear that he said a sentence he never uttered, and the report misframed it to suggest he was attacking the federal dental program when he was speaking about a “carbon tax election.”
How the Conservative Party responded: "The party’s media spokesperson, Sebastian Skamski, had said the party would no longer engage with CTV News “until they explicitly acknowledge their malicious editing & omission of context to undermine Pierre Poilievre.”"
CTV with their tail between their legs: “Last night, in a report on this broadcast, we presented a comment by the official opposition leader Pierre Poilievre that was taken out of context. It left viewers with the impression the conservative non-confidence motion was to defeat the Liberals dental care program. In fact, the Conservatives have made it clear the motion is based on a long list of issues with the Liberal government including the carbon tax. A misunderstanding during the editing process resulted in this misrepresentation. We unreservedly apologize to Mr. Poilievre and the Conservative party of Canada. We regret this report went to air in the manner it did.” And then subsequently followed up that statement by firing the two employees involved in deceptively editing the clip.
Would they have apologized and fired the employees if Pierre wasn't overwhelmingly likely to win the next election? Yeah, probably not.
First, "Skamski" is a hilarious name for a political party spokesperson.
Second, it doesn't seem like "explicitly acknowledge their malicious editing & omission of context to undermine Pierre Poilievre" was actually done. I hope the Conservative Party holds it's ground and refuses to engage with them.
Third, this is a great opportunity for the Conservative Party to come out against whatever the hell Canada's socialist dental program is.

That would be a fast track to losing the election. Canadians love their "free healthcare".
"You must hate poor kids and want their teeth to fall out if you don't support universal dental" haha.

Remember MSNBC's editing a clip of Joe Rogan to make it seem like he was praising Harris? In the US you get Emmy awards for that stuff.

They would have gotten away with it if the Conservatives were likely to lose but the polls are so overwhelmingly in favour of Pierre they don't want to get cut off from access.

when is the next election?
reply
October 2025 but if the Liberals suffer a vote of non confidence it could trigger an election earlier.
