Why not give it a try tonight? Turn the lights down low, light a candle, pull up that terminal and try getmempoolinfo. You might be surprised what your node is capable of. She can tell you exactly how big her mempool is getting.
This may be going horribly wrong, but I'm committed to option B now and there's no going back.
