Welcome to the 20th edition of The Daily Zap — A Daily Newspaper (Kind of 🙏). Here, you'll get links to all of the latest news and updates mostly from the last 24 hours, divided in sections (much similar to pages on a newspaper).
Let's unfold!

~Bitcoin News of the Day

  • Response to Swan’s lawsuit says that the mining company at the center of the controversy was only minority-owned by the company, and not a full-fledged subsidiary. Proton Management argues that Swan Bitcoin never owned the mining business in question, as it was part of 2040 Energy, a separate entity funded by Tether in which Swan holds only a minority stake.

Global Trade & ~Econ

  • Euro zone Sept factory activity shrank at fastest pace this year, factory activity in Japan shrinks in Sept, slows in Taiwan. It's same everywhere. China stimulus may offer relief for Asian exporters. However, global factory activity weakened in September as soft demand and economic uncertainty pointed to a tough outlook, surveys showed, keeping policymakers under pressure to shore up fragile growth.

  • The stakes for their 90-minute debate, hosted by CBS News and scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. ET, are unusually high for an undercard clash. The race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump is tight nationally and in the battleground states, according to recent polling. Given that Trump hasn’t agreed to a second showdown with Harris, Vance vs. Walz could very well be the last debate before Election Day..

  • Pete Rose, baseball’s career hits leader and fallen idol who undermined his historic achievements and Hall of Fame dreams by gambling on the game he loved and once embodied, has died. He was 83.

~Tech & ~Science

  • Microsoft announced on 20 September that it had struck a 20-year deal to purchase energy from a dormant nuclear power plant that will be brought back online. And not just any plant: Three Mile Island, the facility in Londonderry Township, Pennsylvania, that was the site of the worst-ever nuclear accident on US soil when a partial meltdown of one of its reactors occurred in 1979.

~History with Mystery

  • Within the Beatles fandom, there’s a lot of debate as to whether there was ever a fifth Beatle — and if so, who was it? Some say it was the group’s manager, Brian Epstein, or their producer, George Martin, both of whom Paul McCartney has attributed the title to on separate occasions. Others refer to Pete Best, the drummer before Ringo.

~Entertainment World

  • A Scottish woman accused of stalking “Baby Reindeer” creator and star Richard Gadd can proceed with her defamation lawsuit against Netflix, after a federal judge in California refused to dismiss all of the claims.
  • In a ruling published on Friday, Judge R. Gary Klausner wrote that “Baby Reindeer” “appears to present itself as fact” rather than as a representation of Gadd’s opinion by stating at the beginning of the show that “this is a true story.”

Nice selections today. I didn’t even know there was a VP debate tonight. I think I would rather watch playoff baseball but I will check out the highlights.

Baseball is better than those political masks.

When does Cricket season start?
reply
Cricket Season never ends. I'm in the process of drafting a Monthly Cricket pool.
It was yesterday when India played Test Cricket like T20 and made 50 runs in just 3 overs. The fastest ever in test cricket.
I'm drafting a prediction pool. Should we go in with the zaps or plan for P2P buy ins and reward distribution? What you recommend?

Baseball is definitely more interesting to watch.
reply
And that's coming from a non sports fan. Not a ringng endorsement for Vance and Walz.
reply
That's right. And if I was going to watch a sport, it wouldn't be baseball. I actually like tennis a lot. So I am not against sports. Just don't enjoy most. And politics is the worst sport in my opinion.
reply
Tennis is a great sport to play. I used to follow the ATP and WTA closely but not so much anymore. I will tune in for the biggest matches of the year.
And yes, politics is the worst sport. Played by competitors that expect everyone else but themselves to follow the rules.
reply
I really like the fact that it is one versus one. And it's such a dynamic sport in terms of the scoring. It's really a battle with self. I grew up playing it.
