Geofence warrants allow law enforcement to use databases in order to determine who was in a particular area at a certain time. These search warrants are used to compel private companies to hand over geolocation data on all users and devices in a specific “geofence” area. These warrants are atypical because they don’t name a particular suspect or group, instead they are used to obtain information indiscriminately.

I work directly with geofencing technology at my day job and I have got to tell you - it is scary how good this technology is getting. It can track very fine details across zones, longitude/latitude and more.
Get away from your cellphones!
I rented an electric scooter recently. Thought I could go along this really nice beachfront bike trail, but no...the scooter looses power as soon as it gets on it. Geofencing locked me out.
Thanks for your insight!
If you turn off google location history, then this is (supposedly) not stored?
If you your phone is off, this is not stored?
If you use OpenStreetMaps instead of Google Maps (need a graphene device, where you can actually delete Google Maps), I'm assuming nobody has this data.
Unless you are roaming I believe the cell phone provider has this data no matter what phone or software you use. If your SIM and IMEI is KYC'd they will know who you are.
To my knowledge there is no way to have a working cell phone where the cell tower does not know your IMEI
So, if you want to avoid these dragnets you should buy a pixel with cash, no KYC. Buy an eSim from https://silent.link/ anonymously.
But even then, if you have patterns like using that phone at home, taking it with you to work or when you go out. Your patterns will connect you to your address. Which for most people is know by authories if not public.
It is possible to not expose yourself but very inconvenient.
This used this at the capitol house riot, right?
Yes.
From the article:
What is your take on this?
Too much power for the government?
Oh heck yeah.
They should definitely need a search warrant with a name for this kind of data. At the very least.
Im on the fence on this.
Is it a geo fence? 😀
Say more. How so. ?
