I related to Holden as a 13 year old, and as a 30 something year old, and as a 50 something year old. Even if he is whiny, or maybe because. Great review and advice.
Thank you! He doesn’t make the best choices, but when you get past the whining you’re sympathetic to his point of you.
Makes you wonder how author JD Salinger felt coming home from fighting in the beaches of Normandy on D-Day and then writing this book!

I'll never understand that. Did you ever read Joyce Maynard's book At Home In The World? She paints a very ugly picture of Salinger. She basically got pimped out to Salinger by her own mother when she was very young.

I have not read it. Yes supposedly he was a very private guy and himself made the point that he feels you should measure the weight of a book separate from the character of the author who wrote it. Of course many times that can be hard to do!
