It seems from the map that USA is divided between the North and the South. Is Trump getting some good support in the North?

I think you posted in the right territory. I think @grayruby is making the point that the cat/dog ownership states correspond surprisingly with dem/rep, blue/red states. It's kind of funny.

No, it was my mistake not to think strongly about blue and red being the two colours of politics in USA. I started to think about Russia and Ukraine.

Correct. It's not precise but certainly seems the heavy red states prefer dogs and the heavy blue states prefer cats.
