I looked at using Bitrefill for buying some airtime for someone, thinking that with Bitrefill accepting LN then that should be the cheapest way for me to get a small amount (e.g., $10) to that person.
Well, the Bitrefill hidden fee (i.e., poor exchange rate) was about 10%.
So I sent $10 worth of bitcoin to the person directly, since on-chain fees are low right now, and they will (hopefully) just stack it instead.
In El Salvador, the metric is over 90%, my guess is that with Bitcoin on-chain fees so low, Lightning isn't yet a necessity for most people in the US, Europe, etc...
Is not about a "necessity", is about the right way to use BTC. Onchain remains your "central bank" meanwhile LN is your commercial bank and your daily spend pocket. Not using LN today for daily txs is plain STUPID.

It should be much more. Why people are not using LN?
