you could simply reply with e5, c5, e6, c6, OR g6, for example. You don't need to type a number in front after the game start. you could just type e5

Not sure why it reverses the board after you move. That's confusing.

I agree, I had to zoom out my browser to compare to my previous move to see better @ek

I flip it because that's the perspective of the player whose turn it is.
I used to make these board updates manually and it was confusing for black to play upside down.
Chess has always caught my attention but I have never played it.
