In the US its that time of year. Election season. My mailbox is littered each day with crap from these clowns. They go straight into the trash. As I was throwing one away today I saw that it said, So and so is one of us. The classic appeal.
I have news for you younger stackers. No politician is one of us. Even the rare good one. You and I have more in common with our neighbor that disagrees with on politics than we do with a politician that seems to agree with us. Why? The politician doesn't produce anything of value. They do not work for you and I. They work for themselves and their corporate overlords.
Those in the higher positions have even less in common with us. They the servants of the elite. As much as they may try to tell you that they come from middle class roots. Or they had to work their way up, they are in a privileged position.
If we are to ever live in peace we must tune out their divisive messaging and learn to live in peace with our neighbors. We do not have to agree on every issue. It is rare when I have had an actual issue with another person that related to political positions they may hold. The truth is, most of them do not matter. But they are amplified with the intention of dividing communities.
Divided communities are easier to control. You want to be free? Free your mind. Talk to your neighbors. Get to know people around you. Provide help when you can. Be a good neighbor. Don't look for areas to divide on. Look for areas of common ground. When you disagree, agree to disagree.
It seems like we have forgotten out to do that. This is what I'm trying to do at least. I can't change my community but I can affect those I interact with by my actions.
Politics is such a badass that it only divide and rule. There is no form of politics that unites people. Yes it's one of those things!

This is the essence of why I tune out (partisan) political news every October. The whole point is to be as divisive and enraging as possible. I'm not interested in giving those psychopaths that kind of influence on my mind.

This has been the saddest part of the Trump era to me (not that I'm attributing it to him). My dad's best friend went full TDS and it destroyed their friendship for a while. I think they repaired it, but it was shocking to see longtime friends who had always been able to disagree with each other lose that ability.

I have a lot of thoughts on how we got here. It's not Trump's fault. We just like a scape goat.
The people were looking for a Trump figure and he appeared. These people didn't just decide to support a mean bully. They were bullied for decades and disappointed by their weak leaders.
Don't mistake this statement for Trump support. Just explaining.

I strongly disagree. One thing I have learned in this tumultuous political years in Argentina is that politicians are a crystal clear reflection of what we are as a society. They very much are us in the most fundamental sense. We must look at them with attention for they are the most reliable indicator we have respect to the current state of the population moral compass.
On the other hand, I like to strictly separate the bureaucrat class (aka modern nobility) from the civilian class (aka the plebs). Bureaucrats are distinct from politicians in that they remain hidden, leaving people to fight its own reflection (politicians) while they silently profit on the privileges people not only wont question but even will demand ("the state should regulate this!!").

It sounds like you are saying we get the politians we deserve. I agree. This is why I suggest focusing on building community. If people didn't accept the nonsense political figures say. If they used their brains and didn't believe the lies. If they didn't blindly trust authorities those authorities would be forced to change their tactics. But in the US that's not the case.
Both parties have the plebs all spun up. It's intential. They won't fix it. We must fix our communities. If we have stronger bonds the scumbags in Washington would have less power.

Yes, it's a more pragmatic way to put it. It should be stressed, because the first tendency is towards victimization, but it's as fruitful as to victimize one-self for the own errors, keeping us in an eternal loop of decadence, as the one we are seeing now.
If people didn't accept the nonsense political figures say.
I would again focus on people for that matter. Politicians are sellers, they will sell nothing but what people demand. So whenever you hear a politician saying blatant nonsense, hate him not but the no-less-than-20% of the population that already believes what he just said (so he must say it to garner those votes).
It was/is the exact same in Argentina. The previous president literally said on TV that "inflation was due to diabolic influences". To most of us it will sound like if he just got insane, but nope: by then I had already been making questionnaires on the street and an alarming percentage of people actually believed that to stop inflation the central bank had to be cleaned out of demons. It was an eye opening work: no politician ever says anything that people isn't believing already: that's where they take their material from.
Anyone you hear "repeating what they said on TV" already believes it, but they express it openly only once they get that highly official external validation, to elude the unbearable questioning of what they want/like to believe.
We must fix our communities. If we have stronger bonds the scumbags in Washington would have less power.
Yes, that's the one and only way. But again, not out of victimization in the tone of "us against that enemy" but on redemption in the tone of "us against our flaws".
