If it is real, I think it is being released deliberately by US intelligence to stop the Israeli attack. No one wants the conflict between Israel and Iran to escalate. It's too dangerous.
Pretty convinced the US is the top dog but there are rouges and Israeli politics isn't lock step. On top of that Israeli politicians lobby and even threaten US politians. Check out what Thomas Massey has said about how he was targeted. I don't know what is going on. It seems messy and complex. Far more complex than one would think just listening to the politictians an/news.
My gut is telling me conflict is being triggered to increase military spending. I don't think anyone on the US side wants full out war but they sure seem willing to risk it. That said, I do think regime change in Iran has been a todo for the US for over 20 years.
That's cowardly and high time preference. Iran is working towards getting nukes. We should be stopping that now by defeating them. Not buck passing so Harris can win her election.

My dad is planning on going to Iran to visit family before the end of the year. I'll have to keep trying to discourage him.

Yeah, the timing is rough. Try to get him to wait a few months at least.
US is trying to stop the escalation and there is no doubt about it.
One thing is sure that Israel's counter will be huge.
