Hello fellow stackers.
Unfortunately the title is true. I sold all my Bitcoin however it is not all sad news. I will be restacking and building myself back up stronger than before and with more Bitcoin.
I have finally transitioned to nomadic life which has been a dream of mine for years. I tried in early 2020 but COVID and lockdowns really screwed that up.
I’m restarting my art business and I have lots of curious questions about Bitcoin. I find trying to research things overwhelming as there is a lot of information out there. I have lots of questions which I will try and ask within this post.
For example: can you run a node from a van? What is the best way to do this? I have a node which I got from nodl years ago is that still good to use?
How can I get paid in Bitcoin for ticket sales?
I’m not online a lot but I will try to be. If anyone can answer my questions or has any questions or advice that would be greatly appreciated.

curious - how are you going to balance building your art business and being a nomad at the same time? as one of the things I learned from nomading is that restriction sets you free, same in creation - if your mind keeps wondering, it's actually quite hard to create beautiful things, but then everyone is different.
For example: can you run a node from a van? What is the best way to do this? I have a node which I got from nodl years ago is that still good to use?

I dont know how technical you are, you don't really need to run a node to start, maybe start from the simplest setup, e.g.CoinsOS, or just leverage Nostr, what you really want is focus on your art I think, and it takes time to actually learn about the node running. ( personally I use BTCpay )

Thank-you for your wisdom. I will let you know how it is all going after I do my first show in about 3 weeks.

Dreams are bigger than Bitcoin!

It's just one part of a bigger picture. 💚

It's okay. You are here and that is what matters. Being a true bitcoiner isn't about having Bitcoin. It's about the choices we make in how to live. I have lost and sold so much Bitcoin to get here. Maybe in some alternate reality I could be "rich". Instead I am wealthy with lessons of how to live. You are right where you belong. Thank you for your share. 💚

Your words couldn’t be truer I went through a traumatic experience a couple of months ago and found out community is true wealth. I really found out who my friends were. ❤️

I think many of us have been through something like that. Most of my friends from the past aren't around in my life anymore. What a time of profound transformation we live in.
reply
Totally respect that, especially since I think that the hardcore nomadic way is what will save many in what is coming down fast now!
I'm sure you'll find a way of running a node and so on, and then maybe even find a way of earning sats?
You could do longer form, thoughtful videos on topics even offline, then just post & crosspost on a lot of platforms. Genuine content will keep winning :-)

I think people spend too much time online so you can only find my content in the real world.

can you run a node from a van?
Yes but it will probably be slow.
What is the best way to do this?
You could try with Starlink or something and see how it works.
I have a node which I got from nodl years ago is that still good to use?
Yes, that should still work.
How can I get paid in Bitcoin for ticket sales?
I would use a service called Geyser (https://geyser.fund) to get started with selling things for bitcoin. That gives you a unique URL to send people to, a lightning address to receive lightning payments for tips, and a full suite of tools to grow your business.

First of all, good luck in pursuing your dream, be careful not to lose Bitcoin again, it is scarce.
But anyway, I'll tell you that @DesertDave has a post about mining in an extreme place #678708. I found it super interesting, maybe it can help you.
In the ~alter_native territory you can find some ideas.
I repeat, good luck.

Yes! You can run a full node including Lightning on a van. I know of a successful case. There are three requirements: good amounts of energy which means all the solar panels you can fit on the roof, a lifepo4 battery, and good unlimited 4g/5G connection or even Starlink (but this requires more energy, even on the mini version). Use a mini PC with the lowest energy comsumption possible and a good 2Tb SSD. The one that Umbrel sells consumes only 10-20W.

If you want to run a node from a van the best way to do that is with a mobile hotspot that has unlimited data (good luck) and a Raspberry pi running a lightning node. Then you're going to need power so aim for a 500w battery with pv input and some matching 500w solar panels.
Is it worth it? Nahhh. But it can be done™️
reply
Sweet. Thanks for letting me know. I didn’t think it would be worth it but I was curious and I would also like to help the network.
reply
Oh yeah, def. You can also use umbrelos or their proprietary software to run your node with near zero effort

Get a stalink, and anything's possible if you pair that with a start9 server. Also check out floresta node, pretty interesting project

Starlink isn’t in the budget.

Voltage and alby offer cloud node solutions.
What type of art business?
Coin is is custodial but checks a lot of boxes.
Proud of you for following your dream.

I do live performances. Plus I’m working on some photography and paintings.

In the US this is a good option for unlimited hotspot.
For low power consumption a Raspberry Pi might me a good option. Check out https://github.com/raspiblitz/raspiblitz

What kind of art do you make?
I think generally it's better to make as much money in whatever form as you can, then buy what you can. If you do commissions/consultation that might be a better way to stack directly.
reply
Currently I make shows, also some photography and painting.
reply
Today is as good a day as any to start stacking again.
No idea about the node from the van. That's for people smarter than me.
Try BTCpay server for receiving Bitcoin payments.
Best of luck!
