"The term statism is sometimes used to refer to market economies with large amounts of government intervention, regulation, or influence over markets."
"Statism is a doctrine, political or cultural, that the State should be the center and the main structure that directs, administers, and controls all or part of social or economic activity."
"Preeminence of the State in social, economic, or cultural activity."
"In political science, statism or etatism (from French état, "state") is the doctrine that the political authority of the State is legitimate up to a certain point. This may include economic and social policy, especially with regard to taxation and the means of production."
Here are 4 statements related to STATISM. The fourth of them is the one that states the authority of the State in a milder way by stating that it is "legitimate up to a certain point."
Statism is evidently at odds with Liberty. It is likely that in its genesis, in some countries it was a solution, but it has shown that state-controlled is a failure and is totalitarianism. So I do not think that this is an option chosen by the majority, rather it is an imposition by force and power.
In a post by @LibertyLuminary on this subject @thrown responds with the expression of the right to choose. And I agree that each person has the right to choose who to follow and what to think, how to act and what to decide at any given time. But what I am not sure of is that anyone in their right mind would choose that another person decides what is convenient or not for them. Let's be clear, Statism always states the State exercising control and intervening in any aspect of life. And the most interesting thing is that when it gets tangled up, it suggests that it is the citizens who solve the problems. So I do not trust that there is anything good in statism.
