As for your concern about second-hand:
As with everything there's trade-offs. 
I judge the chance that the guy who I bought it from was a malicious hacker to be negligable. Wish I could place bets on that.
If he was I'm not sure how much he might have done that wouldn't be wiped by the process of installing grapheneOS and wiping what was on there. Would be interesting to read about that but it would be more of an academic sort of curiosity.
