There are 13,562 McDonald’s restaurants in America, a third of all the McDonald’s outlets in the entire world.
source: Piers Morgan
reply
They’re in all 50 states, spread across over 5,000 cities.
And they serve 25 million people a day, approximately 7.5% of the US population.
Staggeringly, nearly 9 out of 10 American households visited McDonald’s at least once in the past year.
And the No. 1 biggest-selling item on the menu is the original, basic french fries.

I am biased, I have watched countless Trump interviews, and have to admit I really like the guy, and I'm so badly rooting for him to win the presidency. This is purely personal, not an endorsement of the whole political theater.

Me too

Just saw The Joker 2
Only reason it would get a bad reception, is if people weren't expecting a tragedy. Don't go into the theatres expecting "your hero" to win or be "your hero". Great movie imo, and shout-out to Tim Dillan.

I will defend my colleagues, slightly. As bad as mainstream economics may seem, most of them do not think the standard Democrat economic platform makes any sense. They are Democrats for two main reasons: 1) they're socially liberal and 2) they're technocrats.
reply
Maybe it’s career suicide to be right wing in academia
reply
It could be that they are just surrounded by the leftists at their institutions (whichever they may be). It would be very difficult to maintain a contrarian attitude successfully in those conditions, especially if you depended upon the institution for your daily bread. Sometimes, you just can’t help yourself.
reply
Peer pressure for sure
reply
It isn’t even just peer pressure. It is pressure from HR, administrators and students, too. cancel culture is cancel culture and it won’t stop until everyone can say NO.
reply
Even mainstream economists don't mind being perceived as having controversial views by their colleagues. The difficulty is in how constrained the range of opinions is that they're exposed to.
reply
Narrator band
reply
If you even hint that you do not to the Party line, the other profs and HR are on you like files on kaka. That is how they keep other economists in line. Being an Austrian is very difficult under most of these circumstances.
reply
Certainly on some topics.
The difficulty for Austrians has more to do with not being able to publish in the top journals, which is all departments really care about.
reply
There are some rare places to publish for Austrians, mostly connected to Moses Institute.
reply
Mises Institute isn't considered an academic journal?
Certainly not one that leads to promotions and tenure?
And publishing decisions are never political lol
reply
It's cultural more than anything. Most professors are actually not Americans, and Democrats have done a good job of painting Republicans are racist to anyone who hasn't lived in America. But a lot of professors actually have pretty conservative values when you dig, they just are brainwashed into thinking Republicans are religious zealots who hate non-whites. It's too bad because their blindness is leading the country down an unproductive path.
There was some research showing that being smart doesn't make you more receptive to evidence, it just means you're more creative at dismissing evidence and cherry picking evidence that supports your own world view.
reply
most professors are not American???
interesting....
Are most professors anti American antifa terrorists?

Socratic Method

To protect yourself you must learn to use the Socratic Method. This is a form of cooperative argumentative dialogue or debate between individuals, based on asking and answering questions.
Consider this like a game of chess. However, you are not going to play the defensive game, you are going to play the offense. You are on the attack.
The trick is to be the one asking the questions, and NEVER be the one answering them.
The word “asking” comes from two words, AS KING, meaning you are the king, who requires the answers. So remember you are the king in this debate, because it is you “AS KING” the questions. The other person is trying to check-mate you.
